Exciting news! The Camp Northland team is growing! We are thrilled to announce that Marisa Reby will be joining our full time team as our Development Manager. Marisa has been a Jewish communal professional throughout North America for the last 14 years and genuinely loves building relationships with people and making a difference in the organizations she is a part of. Most recently, Marisa was the Director of Development at one of our amazing Toronto Jewish Day Schools, and ...prior to that was a fundraising professional for a large Jewish overnight camp in the USA. Marisa credits her love of building community and relationships from her own experience as a camper at Jewish overnight and day camps throughout the most formative years of her life. Marisa is beyond excited to be a part of the Northland team and to share the stories and experiences of how transformationally remarkable a summer at Jewish overnight camp truly is. Marisa will be starting next Monday, and can be reached at [email protected]. Please join us in welcoming Marisa, her husband Alex, their boys Micah, Noah, and their dog Macey, to our Camp Northland family!

Our very own camp Director Simon appeared on 'Northland News' this morning to talk about all of the amazing changes going on at camp! Take a look at the video as he talks about COVID-19's impact on camp, virtually staying connected to the camp community, changes to areas like the Health Centre, Dining Hall, and cabins, new programming, and much more!

Simog If you don’t know what this is, you don’t have kids at Camp Northland. It is a blog by Simon, or a Simon Blog, or a Simog. Normally I write these blog...s every night at around midnight during the camp season. It is sort of a letter I write to the parents each night as I reflect on the day that has passed. Today warranted some reflection too. So here goes: Star of wonder, star so bright. Won’t you grant my wish tonight? I can’t remember exactly what year it was, but the memory is as vivid in my mind as if it was yesterday. But it wasn’t yesterday, but rather it was in the early 1980s when I was a camper at Camp Northland. Our staff woke us up in the middle of the night and took us outside to the roundup logs (logs in a square which we would sit on for our morning meetings), We were all told to lie down on the ground with our legs resting upon the logs, our heads all in the middle. And in the inside, somewhat encircled by all of our curious young heads, was our counselor. He said ssshhhhhh. No talking. Look up at the sky. Now look around and find the brightest star. You got it? Good. Shhh, no need to talk. It’s the star that you believe is the brightest. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks tonight. Find your brightest star. Got it? Good. Now repeat after me: Star of Wonder. Star so bright. Won’t you grant my wish tonight? But then he continued. He said: Now make a wish. It can be anything. And your wish will come true. You know why? Because you can be anything. You can do anything. And if you ever feel lost or unsure about what to do in life, you can always find your star and make a wish". You could hear a pin drop. Not one of us spoke. We just stared at the majestic Haliburton sky soaking it in. I remember saying to myself I can do anything. We each found our star and we locked our gaze on that star and we made wishes. I was somewhere around 10 or 11 at the time. To this day I still find my star when I need some guidance. And you know what? It has never let me down. A simple program on a starry night that changed my life. The amazing thing is that in my own time at camp I had countless moments like this that shaped who I am as a person and formed my toolbox to ensure my journey would have purpose, direction, and guidance. I am no different than the thousands upon thousands of children who have been lucky enough to have had (or to still have) Camp Northland as part of their lives. Today we ran a fundraiser in support of Camp Northland. We just crossed the $200,000 milestone as I am writing this at about midnight. I keep looking at that number and thinking about how so many people decided to step up today. So many people decided that they want to make a difference. These efforts are going to result in so many more life-changing experiences for so many kids. It makes me so happy that this camp is strong. It makes me so happy that this community is strong. If you are up for an adventure, wake your kids up tonight and look up at the stars. Then tell them to find their star and make a wish. Then tell them they can be anything they want in life. Then close your eyes and thank your lucky stars that we have Camp Northland for our children. Onward Northland.

I am often asked ‘why camp matters’. I could answer that question with 10001 compelling answers. But nothing speaks louder than anecdotes - and this one celebrates a parent’s ever-lasting pride, a story of incredible success, a fascinating journey, and a lifetime of commitment back to where it all began. Greg is the past president of the Jewish Camp Council of Toronto, and remains actively involved in providing guidance and direction to Camp Northland. - Simon Greg Evans

We have an unbelievable day but we are not done yet. We actually still have just over 12 hours left in our 24 hour Day of Giving and so we have added a $36,00 BONUS GOAL. We would love to get 100% participation from our entire community! Any sized gift would be greatly appreciated and will have a tremendous impact. raisedays.com/campnbb

WOW! WE DID IT!! We have officially passed our goal of $180,000! This is all thanks to YOU. Today we demonstrated the power of community and the strength of our connections. 'To each of you that donated, THANK YOU! To each of you that volunteered, THANK YOU! To each of you that shared our posts and spread the word, THANK YOU! And of course, to our generous matching donors - the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, Anton Rabie & Ronnen Harary, THANK YOU! We are blown away by today'...s support. Camp Northland is stronger today than it ever has been. And we don't mean because of the money raised. We mean because today we saw the true spirit of the NBB family, and how important it is to so many people in our community. Whether you attended 50+ years ago, or you are joining us for your first weekend next summer, Camp Northland is your home. And it will continue to be for generations to come. We have added a special 'bonus goal' that will be seen on raisedays.com/campnbb #NBBDayofGiving #ALLINforNBB #AllTogetherNow #For2021andBEYOND
