Camp Tawingo 01.01.2021

January 1, 2021! IT'S A BRAND NEW YEAR! Please join us on the Flagpole Terrace for a New Year's message...and then for a walk in the woods... Notice the winter sun...shining brilliantly and beautifully through the trees...like a beacon leading us forward into what we hope will be a brighter year ahead! Wouldn't you agree? Happy New Year one and all!... Be well. Stay safe. #LetThereAlwaysBeCamp See more

On this day of Remembrance, in services across the country and around the world, the power of poetic verse is heard and felt by millions...moving us, while, at the same time, providing some kind of meaning to the magnitude of war and the importance of remembrance...as well as the hope for peace... Here at Camp, there is a song we have sung for years written by a dear Camp friend, the late Joe Hampson of "The Travellers": "Talk About Peace". The chorus goes like this: Talk ...about love, talk about peace, talk about a world full of happiness Talk about love your neighbor as yourself, talk about friendliness Talk about do unto others, as you would have others do unto you And with thoughts like that running through your head There's nothing good that you can't do. Such words have particular meaning on this day of Remembrance...indeed, on every day... Lest we forget...

In this stunning run of summer-like weather...with sunsets like this... And sunrises like this... It makes perfect sense to reach into that closet, pull out your favourite Camp "t" (maybe even one with a "T" on it?! ), and throw it on in support of INTERNATIONAL WEAR YOUR SUMMER CAMP T-SHIRT DAY - November 10th! Don't you think! #LetThereAlwaysBeCamp

A supportive and hopeful 'call-to-action' letter from former Mayor of Huntsville and current MP for Parry Sound-Muskoka - Scott Aitcheson. #LetThereAlwaysBeCamp! https://doppleronline.ca//save-our-summer-camps-mp-scott/

More of the earlier fall colours at Camp... One of the most wondrous things of the season is that it is possible to see all of these colours in the course of one week's worth of walks round the site.

Today, as the sun reflects beautifully on Vernon's rippling waters, we find ourselves reflecting, as well...on all we have to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving Weekend... And there is, despite the challenges of a worldwide pandemic, so much to be thankful for, we believe... The love - if not the close company - of family and friends; food on our table, a roof over our heads, and beauty all around us; Camp connections that remain so strong for so many of us - connections t...o each other, to the out-of-doors, and to this place #ThankstoCamp; and the continued hope that we will gather together, once more - in the Dining Hall for that first lunch of the first day ("Welcome to Camp!" "Camp is Where I Want to Be!") in summer 2021! #LetThereAlwaysBeCamp! So much to be thankful for - wouldn't you agree? Stay safe, please. Stay healthy, please. And - HAPPY THANKSGIVING, with love from all of us at Camp Tawingo.

Over the past few weeks, you may have noticed a significant uptick in media reporting related to the challenges faced by Ontario camps in the face of summer closures. The Ontario Camps Association and the Canadian Camping Association have made considerable progress in gaining the attention of Ministers and Members of Parliament at both levels of government thanks to the #SaveCanadianCamps campaign. Early next week OCA and CCA representatives have secured a meeting with the P...rime Minister’s Office to discuss meaningful support of and strategies for the camping industry in order to help achieve recovery for camps that may be facing the hard truth of closure. Tawingo is joining with the OCA and CCA to garner maximum response and exposure to this issue by requesting that any and all who love camp (staff, parents, campers, alumni) send letters, or make posts on social media about why camp is important to them using the #ThanksToCamp and #SaveCanadianCamps hashtags. Momentum of this kind, from people like you, is so important to help keep pressure and focus upon meeting the needs of children through Camps. So here is our request: Can you join us, please, and raise your voice for Camps? Can you write letters or e-mails to your MP, MPP, contacts in the government? Do not worry about any particular party - broad support for a plan and program from all parties is ultimately necessary. Can you make social media posts this weekend/week to your neighbours and friends? Can you do it for the campers you know and for the tens of thousands of campers you don’t know? We know you can. Thank you.
