Hiking up a frozen Allstones Creek gorge west of Nordegg. Many people are familiar with the hike up to Allstones Lake, but the Creek hike is right next to it a...nd not quite as well known. You don’t get the grand vistas while in the gorge, but it is a very cool hike with small waterfalls frozen here and there. The Allstones Trailhead is about 33 kms west of Nordegg on the David Thompson Highway, in Clearwater County, a lovely part of David Thompson Country. If you are looking for services, Nordegg has 2 gas stations, restaurants, a hotel, and many cabins to rent, and Rocky Mountain House, about 50 minutes further east, has all services. An early winter view on the Vision Quest hike with the David Thompson Highway in the background. This is a pretty steep climb of ~ 6 kms round trip with part of... it being a scramble, but there are amazing views once you get above the trees. The trail head is located at the Cline Waste Transfer Station west of Nordegg ~40kms or just east of the David Thompson Resort. Visions Quest is a challenging climb with an amazing view every step of the way. The levels will start to drop soon as the Bighorn Dam lets out more water than flows in for the North Saskatchewan River and other tributaries.
