Effect of Lumbrokinase on High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein Dear Clinicians: The fact that chronic inflammation contributes to the development of cardiovascular disease has been long recognized with little dispute. However, the value of measuring High sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) as a prognostic marker has always been debated. We believe this marker is helpful in the evaluation and decision making for the clinicians. In 2019 & 2020, Journal of the American Hear...t Association published two articles addressing the use of hs-CRP in primary prevention ( Quispe R, et al, 202) and in secondary prevention ( Carrero JJ, et al, 201). Research suggests that inflammation is independently associated with ASCVD regardless of atherogenic lipid levels and that hs-CRP has a prognostic value in patients with an MI history. While lumbrokinase is known to improve hypercoagulability and has potential benefits in the prevention/treatment of CVD, many may not realize that lumbrokinase has also been shown to decrease hs-CRP in various studies. According to Xin Zheng et al (2000), lumbrokinase was shown to reduce hs-CRP and improve coagulation parameters in unstable angina patients in 2 weeks. In another study, lumbrokinase also significantly reduced hs-CRP level in patients with cerebral infarction after 6 months of treatment (Qiu Chenhong et al 2012). While it is important to correct the root cause of inflammation when treating CVD, lumbrokinase may be helpful in lowering chronic inflammation and improve the outcome of CVD. Earthworm (Lumbrokinase) Research in Diabetic Foot Ulcers Dear Clinicians: Diabetic foot ulcer is known to be one of the most common complications in diabetic patients. According to Won SH et al. (2014), the probability of amputation within one year after the first ulcer or gangrene is 34.1%, and the mortality rate can be high as 5.5%. In addition, a report from the American Association of Diabetes suggested that about 20% to 33% of costs related to type II diabetes are allo...cated to the treatments of diabetic foot ulcers, which can cause tremendous physical, emotional, and financial burden to the patients and their families. In the past research updates, we have shared several articles on the use of lumbrokinase in improving diabetic microcirculation, diabetic neuropathy (metabolically-induced and trauma-induced), and diabetic nephropathy. This month, we are presenting an article that evaluates the use of earthworm extract in diabetic foot ulcers. According to the study by Xingbing Yu et al. (2014), topical application of earthworm extract is shown to reduce the area of the ulcer, purulent secretions, granulation tissue, accelerate wound healing in patients with diabetic foot; In addition, CRP level was decreased and IGF-1and VEGF levels were increased in the treatment group. It appears that earthworm extract (that contains lumbrokinase) can be beneficial to diabetic patients when used internally and externally. To learn more about how lumbrokinase (earthworm enzyme) can improve circulatory function in conditions associated with hypercoagulation, please feel free to contact us for more research data. Research Update August 2020 - In Vitro Effects of Lumbrokinase on Lung Cancer Cells While the world is focusing on the pandemic, health care providers continue to take care of patients suffering from other health conditions including lung cancer. Lung cancer has been one of the leading causes of death in North America; according to the American Cancer Society, in the US, there will be about 228,820 new cases of lung cancer and about 135,720 deaths from lung cancer in 2020. ...Also, even though lung cancer is not the most common type of cancer, there is more people die from lung cancer than from prostate, breast and colon cancers combined each year. While most studies in lumbrokinase have focused on circulatory issues, researchers have been exploring its potential application in the field of oncology and preliminary studies have shown positive results. As mentioned in the past research updates, lumbrokinase is shown to: 1) Significantly decreases the rate of cancer angiogenesis and metastasis, 2) Induce tumor apoptosis in the animal model, 3) Augment the effect of chemotherapy for bladder cancer treatment (in-vitro). This month, we are presenting a research that studied the effects of lumbrokinase in the proliferation and cell cycle of lung cancer cell line A549. According to the results of this study, lumbrokinase has a dose-dependent inhibitory effect in the growth of A549 cell line. In addition, lumbrokinase is shown to arrest A549 cell cycle in S-phase can up-regulate P53 gene expression. While further research is required to understand the exact mechanism and effect of lumborkinase, it is exciting to see another new potential help for lung cancer patients. If you would like to learn more about how lumbrokinase may help your patients, please do not hesitate to contact us! Have a wonderful day! Research Update: The Anti-Microbial Effect of Lumbrokinase Antibiotics are one of the most commonly prescribed medications in North America (and world wide). When used correctly, antibiotics can treat nasty infections and save lives; when used incorrectly, however, they may lead to further problems. According to CDC, About 30 percent of antibiotics (47 million prescriptions) are prescribed unnecessarily and More than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur in the... United States each year, and more than 35,000 people die as a result. Even with proper use, antibiotics are not without side effects. According to a report from John Hopkins’ University, 1/5 of the patients prescribed antibiotics experienced one or more adverse effects. What are some of the other options then? Surprisingly, besides being a strong fibrinolytic agent, lumbrokinase (and earthworm powder) might also be helpful in fighting bacterial and fungal infection, such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas fluorcscence, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Saccharomyces cerevisiae K, Candida albicans and Aeromonas hydrophila. In addition, Lumbrokinase has been shown to break down biofilms and may increase the effectiveness of conventional antibiotics. Take a look at these interesting research and see how Boluoke (lumbrokinase) may help your patients! Reference: http://ow.ly/d/8ouS http://ow.ly/d/8ouT http://ow.ly/d/8ouU
