Each day we are keenly aware of the impact women have in our world. Natural mothers, host mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, cousins, friends, colleagues - women have incredible roles in our lives and in the lives of each of our students. We celebrate and honour you on this #internationwomensday. Thank you to the women who help us make the world a smaller place, one student at a time! Little girls with dreams become women with vision. Canada’s winter tradition, Winterlude, is virtual this year! Since 1979, Winterlude has brightened the winters of Canada’s Capital Region. This year, from February 5 to 21, a new and entirely virtual experience is being brought to Canadians from coast to coast! Many interactive experiences will be shared throughout Winterlude. Bring the winter joy and wonder to your home and admire the world of sculptors in the first-ever virtual Winterlude National Ice-Carving Competi...tion, which is being held simultaneous in 7 cities across the country. Talented artists from the Canadian music scene will also perform. #VirtuallyTogether #Winterlude Watch the virtual kick-off show online at 7 pm (ET) on Friday, February 5, (tomorrow!) via YouTube or on the Capital Experience Facebook page. Japanese high school student Koharu looks pretty well at ease as she cranks out some fresh pasta in the "Italian kitchen" of host parents Rosa & Mimmo in Ottawa. Like Italy, Japan also has a long history of noodle making and something tells us Koharu may have done that before! Whether it's comparing notes on how to make the perfect noodle or chatting over a cup of tea, the pandemic has meant a lot of time together. Host mom Rosa says, "She is just like a daughter and very close to both Mimmo and I. Cannot say how happy we are." Koharu reports she is enjoying her time in Canada and keeping a positive attitude despite the pandemic. "Thanks to my host family I never feel alone. We are making pasta, cooking, baking, walking, cycling, watching some movies, doing some grocery shopping and having tea."

The Canadian Fishing experience in 5 easy steps by super hosts Eric & Michelle of Barrie, ON. Step 1: Load up your kids, students and the dogs at the crack of dawn and arrive at your destination (Manitoulin Island) looking very refreshed. Step 2: Check-in to the cabin and grab a fantastic family photo to commemorate the experience. Step 3: Head out on to the water in search of your quarry. Step 4: Watch the girls achieve great angling success even though we are pretty sure they haven't done a lot of bass, pike or walleye fishing back home in Spain. Step 5: Fillet, fry and feast... and reflect on an epic day and be thankful for a host family that makes every day a great adventure!
