Our new website is live! A whole hearted thank you to Katherine and our volunteer Linda for all of the headaches and long hours that went in to building this new website over the last year. CAHF offers every bit of thanks and appreciation to you. This literally could not have happened without you. Please remember that this website is a work in progress. It is a growing archive of our Members and Belt of Orion recipients. This is just the beginning. ... One feature that is new to our website is the collection. CAHF is in the process of digitizing its collection to bring it online for the world to see. What is featured on the website is only a sample size of what CAHF intends to share. This will take time, resources, and more human effort power than we can sustain at the moment, but it will happen in due course. Head to www.CAHF.ca to see the changes and let us know what you think!

Today is March 21, World Downs Syndrome Day. To celebrate the friends and family in our lives that rock the extra 21 chromosome, one way to show support can by wearing your craziest, mismatched socks. Take a picture of your best aviation-themed socks and post them in the comments! CAHF would love to see them. (.. Since it is apparent now that our CAHF staff don’t actually own aviation themed socks... how embarrassing .. )... #seetheability #wdsd2021

How it started vs. How it’s going. This video shows you, our fellow aviation enthusiasts, how our website started. Head to our website this weekend and have a good hard look at what is there currently. ... Because one of these days .. It might just disappear .. CAHF (*cough* Katherine *cough*) has been working on our new website for well over a year now with our outstanding tech and computer programming volunteers. We cannot wait to share it with you in the *very near* future.

One benefit to public closure: the time and space to take down the old to make room for the new without interrupting visitors! (Disclaimer: no artifacts or images were harmed in this dismantling as we only use reproductions in our displays.) The CAHF display panel design was outsourced to Two Design Associates back in 1974. Their guideline was followed by CAHF until 2013. ... CAHF is looking to take Member and Belt of Orion panels from a two-dimensional format to a more virtual, interactive experience going forward. What kind of exhibit, interactive experience, or story-telling would you like to see from CAHF next time you come to visit us at the Reynolds Museum? Let us know in the comments.

Here is some Friday motivation from Kathy Fox. This is an excerpt from her CAHF acceptance speech in 2016 at ceremonies held in Ottawa. What wisdom have you picked up from guest presenters, panelists, or individual speeches over the years? Let CAHF know in the comments.

Today is Remembrance Day. Today we take the time to sit in silence and thank all of the brave men and women who risked and sacrificed their lives for us, for Canada. Remembrance Day was first observed in 1919 in the British Commonwealth, originally called Armistice Day, to commemorate the armistice agreement that ended the First World War on November 11, 1918, at 11:00 AM. In 1931, it was renamed to Remembrance Day. ... Every November 11, Canadians remember those lives lost, those lives served, and those who continue to serve. We remember more than 2,300,000 Canadians who have served throughout our history and more than 118,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice. We make the time to consider what this sacrifice means. To understand the sacrifice of millions of Canadians for a country of people to be able to live their lives in freedom and peace. A moment to acknowledge those we never knew, and those we did, who risked everything and laid their life on the line for us. Today we honour them. Today we miss them. Today we remember them. Today we thank them. Today we carry them in our hearts, and within our livelihood. Thank you. For the sacrifice that could never be repaid but simply and humbly honoured. Thank you for this treasure of a life we live. If you are able, please consider donating to the Veterans Food Bank or your local Legion in support of veterans today. Going through the daily journal and operational log book of Walter Edwin Gilbert (1974) from his time up north in 1930. Nice to see that some things never change. A page of various grocery lists with that one item that *needs* to be collected.

Did You Know: Inducted Member Alfred Caywood (1988), while working for Eldorado Mining and Refining, acquired from war-surplus stock the first Douglas DC-3 to be licensed commercially in Canada. This initiated the first extensive use in Canada of the DC-3 for freight and passenger haulage. Read more about Alf Caywood here : https://cahf.ca/CUSTOMPAGES/907/MemberList.cfm
