#OTD in 1918 the Battle of Moreuil Wood took place. The battle occurred on March 30, 1918 on the banks of the Arve River in France, which saw the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), as part of the Canadian Cavalry Brigade, headed by Lieutenant (Lt) Gordon Flowerdew, force the withdrawal of the 23rd German Division from Moreuil Wood. Lt Flowerdew led his 100-man squadron on a charge that defeated a superior German force of 300 men supported by machine guns. This victory, however, came at a great price as Lt Flowerdew was wounded and 24 of his troops were killed in battle. He later died from the wounds he received that day and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his leadership

Since 3 December 2020, 13 Canadian Rangers from the Fond-du-Lac Canadian Ranger Patrol in northern Saskatchewan were activated following a provincial request fo...r support to assist local officials with COVID-19 relief operations. With the community in lockdown due to COVID-19, the Canadian Rangers were tasked with providing support to residents. Support in the community included delivering food and essential goods to residents, as well as providing logistical support to officials. Today, the #CAF support to the community of Fond-du-Lac, Saskatchewan, has ended successfully. -- Depuis le 3 décembre 2020, 13 Rangers canadiens de la Patrouille des Rangers canadiens de Fond-du-Lac dans le nord de la Saskatchewan ont été activés à la suite d'une demande provinciale de soutien pour aider les responsables locaux dans les opérations de secours COVID-19. La communauté étant confinée à cause du COVID-19, les Rangers canadiens ont été chargés de fournir un soutien aux résidents. Le soutien dans la communauté comprenait la livraison de vivres et de biens essentiels aux résidents, ainsi que la fourniture d'un soutien logistique aux fonctionnaires. #ThrowbackThursday Trouty, NL 29 September 2010 - A Medium Girder Bridge is built by 4 ESR and 56 Engineer Company, St. John's NL, for the residents of Trouty NL on the Bonavista Penninsula, Newfoundland and Labrador. The community of Trouty was cut off from supplies and vehicle traffic when the only bridge that connected the community to the mainland was washed away by high water levels brought on by Hurricane Igor.

The Canadian Armed Forces’s annual support to Parks Canada's avalanche control program, Op PALACI, began November 21 and is expected to continue into April 2021. The CAF have provided artillery support to PCAs avalanche control program in Glacier National Park in the Rogers Pass region since 1961 and Op PALACI is instrumental in keeping the major road and rail transportation corridors cross the Columbia Mountains in British Columbia safe and clear during the winter months. This is but one way that the CAF directly contributes to our whole of government partners in its ongoing response to safety and security matters!
