Women entrepreneurs are essential to the economic prosperity of our communities and to Canada’s post-pandemic recovery. However, women face systemic barriers which have been only been amplified by COVID-19. Today, Minister of Northern Affairs, Daniel Vandal, announced a top-up investment of $143 thousand for @pauktuutit, which serves all Inuit Nunangat, through the Women Entrepreneurship Strategy Ecosystem Fund. This is part of a national $15-million top-up investment for not-for-profit organizations to provide timely support and advice to women entrepreneurs facing hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CanNor is investing over $3.2 million in six projects that will continue to grow and diversify Nunavut’s economy. This investment supports projects that are providing safe work environments for employees on vessels and in plants during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as projects across the territory that are exploring innovative ways to expand and promote Nunavut’s fishing and sealing industries into new markets, exploratory fisheries, as well as support the exploration of small scale inshore fisheries in Arviat, Kinngait, and Sanikiluaq. The government has tabled legislation for targeted supports to help businesses hard-hit by #COVID19. These measures are designed to help businesses get through ...the second wave of the virus, protect jobs and be positioned for a strong recovery.
