Canadian Stenographer 24.01.2021

There are now 1162 correspondences in the Canadian Stenographer database. Our readers are encouraged to look through the archive for examples of "Language Sneakiness" where the spirit of the text may differ from place to place or between English and French. While many of the emails are utterly ridiculous in their nature, we haven't seen anything totally unusual in terms of e-marketing tactics. With the help of general Canadians to maintain the archive, we will be watching with an even closer eye as we prepare to brace for what has already become a campaign for the coming 2015 election.

Canadian Stenographer was mentioned in the Spring 2015 American Library Association Law & Political Science news publication! The full blurb by University of Alberta's Public Services Librarian Emily Zheng is on page 10, here's an excerpt: "As a tiny new media initiative working out of Montréal, Canadian Stenographer currently operates with no institutional support or financial model. It relies on expert volunteers and donations, which can even be made in BitCoin! However, it...s scope is expansive. Motivated by a frustration at the lack of accountability at the party level, founder AJ West wants to archive all forms of correspondences, from all time periods, and across all jurisdictions. [...] Canadian Stenographer certainly has the potential to reveal fascinating trends in political communications, although the current collection is simply not big enough to support comprehensive analysis. It has Big Data potential, but its long-term value can only be realized with more support on all sides." http://www.ala.org//l/publications/newsletter/lpss30-2.pdf

Canada's political leaders had a lot to say this weekend. Tom Mulcair reminded everyone that he grew up in a family of 10 kids while advertising a campaign lottery; anyone who donates $5 or more to Canada’s NDP / Le NPD du Canada has a chance to win "a very special dinner in Ottawa" and a stay at a hotel. http://canadianstenographer.ca/?emailid=6229989112414208 As usual, the NDP dominated the number of emails sent to subscribers, with at least 8 confirmed individual emails se...nt Saturday and Sunday alone (in each language). The Conservative Party of Canada - Parti conservateur du Canada wanted their subscriber-base to remember that their "Conservative, balanced budget is benefiting all Canadians..." http://canadianstenographer.ca/?emailid=5398371237888000 The Liberal Party of Canada | Parti libéral du Canada showed off their latest ad which points out that $750 million over the last 9 years has been spent on "Stephen Harper’s taxpayer-funded partisan ad machine." http://canadianstenographer.ca/?emailid=4838702102609920 Last Friday, the Young Liberals of Canada / Jeunes libéraux du Canada sent a bilingual email which placed emphasis on the budget having entirely excluded climate change and education. The Liberals are the only federally registered party (so far) to disseminate correspondences from their younger affiliates by email. http://canadianstenographer.ca/?emailid=6324279750688768

Of all the emails sent to Canadians by registered parties, Canada’s NDP / Le NPD du Canada represent about 40% of the total messages we've acquired.

Did you know, the Conservative Party of Canada - Parti conservateur du Canada is the only Canadian political party that does not regularly correspond with their French subscribers?
