Tomorrow, November 11, also known as Remembrance Day. 1. It was originally called Armistice Day to commemorate armistice agreement that ended the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m.on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. 2. From 1921 to 1930, Armistice Day was held on the Monday of the week in which November 11 fell. In 1931, Alan Neill, Member of Parliament for ComoxAlberni, introduced a bill to observe Armistice Day only on ...November 11. Passed by the House of Commons, the bill also changed the name to Remembrance Day. The first Remembrance Day was observed on November 11, 1931. 3. Every year on November 11, Canadians pause in a moment of silence to honour and remember the men and women who have served, and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict and peace. We remember the more than 2,300,000 Canadians who have served throughout our nation’s history and the more than 118,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice. 4. The poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day. Replica poppies are sold by the Royal Canadian Legion to provide assistance to Veterans. 5. Remembrance Day is a federal statutory holiday in Canada. It is also a statutory holiday in three territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut) and in six provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador). 6. The national ceremony is held at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. The Governor General of Canada presides over the ceremony. It is also attended by the Prime Minister, other government officials, representatives of Veterans’ organizations, diplomatic representatives, other dignitaries, Veterans as well as the general public. 7. In advance of the ceremony, long columns of Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces members, RCMP officers, and cadets march to the memorial lead by a pipe band and a colour guard. At the end of the ceremony, they march away to officially close the ceremony. @canadiancollege_english #remembranceday #canada #eslschool

Long before Digital learning was a trend Jim Clark, founder of CCEL, decided to take Canadian College of English Language into the digital age and go paperless. What developed was the @SmrtEnglish curriculum which is now used around the world by 230 000 students studying online from 206 institutions by more than 6000 teachers. The motivation of doing it for the environment was a good cause to make a change. In addition to it what happened was the students were more engaged. They loved the material and the fact they were using technology that was on their laptop or their tablet. Basically all the grammar lessons were turned into videos which we put on YouTube for free, where we have more than 200 000 subscribers! Description of Movie Englishwith Lee Movie English is an Elective 2 class with 14 weeks of material. The focus of the class is learning natural, everyday vocabulary and expressions and then hearing and seeing them used in an authentic way in a movie. Each week, we watch one movie from a number of different genres: action, romance, comedy, drama, fantasy and science fiction.... From each movie, I have pulled out all of the vocabulary that is useful in everyday life and that is needed to understand the movie. Then, Ive divided the movie into sections ranging from about 5-20 minutes in length. We learn the vocabulary and expressions in a section and then together watch that section of the movie. We learn by working together to read dialogues and example sentences out loud. The students learn the meaning and pronunciation by seeing how the vocabulary is used in context. The meaning, use and pronunciation is then reinforced by seeing it used in the movie. The students learn organically and cooperatively and the class becomes like a team or family with lots of laughter, conversation, support, and space for questions. I stop the movie throughout as necessary to check comprehension, ask questions, and to point out interesting things in the story, action, direction etc. As a result, the class becomes a very dynamic, participatory class where the students are engaged and continually challenged. Who The Instructor is Lee Pesochin, born in Canada, with 20 years experience teaching ESL and 8 years experience teaching Movie English. The Goal of the Class To learn vocabulary and expressions in an authentic, natural and fun way. Philosophy / Focus English is best learned in context, with interest, a challenge, and humour. Style of the Class Dynamic, engaged, interesting and fun. What Online Movie English class using Zoom, Google Docs, dialogues, and Hollywood movies. I have other components in Movie English such as performing sections of the movie, writing a summary of the movie, and writing a review of the movie. Heres a list of the movies I use in the class: The Notebook Truman Show Hitch Groundhog Day Yes Man Etc. See more

Who teaches - The Instructor is Lee Pesochin, born in Canada, with 20 years experience teaching ESL and 7 years experience teaching IELTS. The Goal of the Class - The goal of the class is to have each student achieve the maximum score that is possible for them. Every student has a maximum score inside them, but there are blocks (mental blocks, knowledge blocks, and experiential blocks) that keep them from achieving this maximum score. This class will disappear those blo...cks and allow them to achieve their maximum score. Philosophy / Focus - The philosophy / focus of the class is that there are four things you need to learn, practice and improve to get the score you want on the Test. These are, your general English skills, your IELTS understanding, your experience doing the IELTS Test, and your mental state and training. - Each class begins with 5+ minutes of meditation to learn to focus your mind, to learn to regain focus when you lose it, to learn to become relaxed when you get nervous, and to learn to stay positive, confident and motivated. Lee teaching includes reminders and discussion to also improve all of these things. These are things that will make a huge difference on the Test but also in all areas of life. Learning the tips, tricks and strategies to succeed on the Test, doing authentic (i.e. real IELTS Tests from Cambridge that are no longer being used) IELTS Test questions for practice, and doing full authentic IELTS Tests for practice so that you get comfortable with and skilled at doing the Test in a test-like setting. What - Online IELTS class using Zoom, Google Docs, websites, videos, discussion, and authentic IELTS Tests for practice. - All four sections of the Test are taught and tested each week. - An authentic Reading and Listening Test is done each Monday, an authentic Speaking Test is done each Wednesday, and an authentic Writing Test is done each Friday. Discussion and written feedback is given after each test. - All scores are tracked so the students will see where they are improving or not and then we can tailor the classes and self-study (i.e. homework) to their needs. English Beach Vocabulary Words for Summer Fun Summer is the perfect time to hit the beach and catch some rays. But, uh, what do all those words mean?... So knowing beach vocabulary is very useful, especially for fun times in the summer. Here some words that you might need to learn this summer. 1. Boardwalk Many beaches have a place where visitors can walk above the sand. These walkways, known as boardwalks, are usually made of boards or large wooden planks. Boardwalks are perfect for enjoying the beach without having to deal with any of the sand or water! 2. Shore The area where the sand meets the water is called the shore. 3. Coast The coast is the part of the land thats close to the sea or ocean. Beaches are always located on the coast. If you live in a place thats close to the ocean, youre in a coastal region. On the other hand, if theres no large body of water anywhere near your city, youre landlocked. This means you are surrounded by land, and theres no ocean nearby. No beaches for you! 4. Sandbar Sometimes the force of the water pushes sand up to form a narrow island. This sand island is called a sandbar. Sandbars can sometimes be called reefs, especially if theyre made of coral (colonies of very small animals) or rocks instead of sand. 5. Tide pool When the tide goes from high to low, it can leave behind a tide pool, or a small pool of water. Tide pools are homes to all sorts of interesting creatures! 6. Waves Waves are made when water moves towards the shore. Waves can be calm, or rise up high and leave behind a white foam. 7. Soft serve Nothing beats soft serve ice cream! It is a soft, creamy, melt-on-your-hands ice cream that is served in cones. Soft serve ice cream is a perfect summer treat. 8. Salt water taffy Salt water taffy isnt made from ocean water, but its made with salt and water. This sticky candy was first created on the beach in Atlantic City, New Jersey, but it can now be found in beaches all around the United States. Canada-english.com

Return to in-person classes We are pleased to announce that, on June 29th, CCEL began the gradual return to optional in-person classes on a limited basis. CCEL Live will continue for students who wish to remain at home. We are extremely proud of our CCEL Live virtual classes, the positive response we have received from students, and the ability of our instructors to not only meet this unprecedented challenge, but to excel and continue to deliver top-quality language training.... The health and safety of our students and staff remain our top priority. CCEL has developed a plan that follows the recommendations of the Provincial Health Authority to keep our students safe during offline classes. Canada-english.com
