The concussions from the major crashes get diagnosed, said Dr. Brian Benson, the chief medical officer for the Canadian Sport Institute in Calgary, Alberta, who has been studying brain trauma in sliding sports for a decade. The real concern is the concussion-like symptoms they experience because of the high speeds and the forces.

This is what happens when you make space safe and available for the public to be physically active - Gatineau Park has closed the parkways to vehicular traffic for the rest of the summer - this piece is written by local athlete Dave McMahon, Natural Fitness Lab - #medicinethroughmovement Thank you National Capital Commission There is overwhelming public support for the continued closure of parkways in the Gatineau Park. This initiative has provided a healthy and safe environ...ment to all. We have seen a dramatic reduction in stunt racing, crime, accidents injury, deaths, pollution (air and noise), littering and environmental impact. While there has been a significant uptake by families, new cyclists, special needs and the elderly as well as regular users (hikers, cyclists, runners, rollerskiing, in-line, skate boarding). The park is far more accessible and inclusive than before now that e-scooters, wheel chairs, and baby chariots can use the parkways safely. Hiking groups and families can walk on the parkways now. The use of e-bikes has opened up accessibility to many who want to climb to one of the lookouts. It is more likely to see wildlife now in this car free environment. The main parking lots affected by the closures are: Champlain, Keogan, Black and Pink. These sites are still accessible on foot with a short hike/bike (2km) from another parking lot. Ninety per cent of the parking lots remain open and over 200km of trails are accessible.
