Meet Marussia Paradis MentorAbility Provincial Coordinator at SPHERE! Marussia has spent 10 years working for the integration of people living with disabilities. She offers valuable experience in national partnership development, funds management and responding to the labour needs of employers. We’re so happy to have her on the team! What energizes you about your role?... MentorAbility energizes me in many ways. For example, I have the power of implementing new easy solutions to connect employers, job seekers with disabilities and employment services. Also, I have the privilege of speaking with several important players and that gives me the feeling of helping to break down barriers and create new communication channels. And I can not help but smile when I think back to the many people who tell me how good it feels to be part of a positive project in these uncertain times that we live. What inspired you to pursue the career you have today? When I was looking for a job in the social support sector, I was carried by a deep belief that everyone had the right to the same opportunity to be part of their community. Thus, supporting people with disabilities in their search, their integration and the maintenance of employment went without saying. Why is Workplace inclusion important? For me, inclusion means that everyone is considered equal in their workplace. By breaking down possible barriers and prejudices, we ensure that all individuals can bring their own contribution in their community and their society. www.supportedemployment.ca Stay tuned for our next #Mentorability feature!

Meet Karen Goodman Wong- Provincial Coordinator at WASO Employment Services! Karen has worked in the field of disability support for close to twenty-five years, eighteen in the field of supported employment. She a proud leader of the WASO ES Team, and is excited to be a part of the MentorAbility project. Her biggest passion is being a mother to two incredible children! What energizes you about your role? ... Seeing people achieve their dreams getting a job they love, buying a car, moving into their own apartment, returning to school are just a few things that make me love going to work every day. When my daughter was diagnosed with a learning disability, my experience in the field gave me the knowledge (and tenacity) to push for the supports she needed to be successful in school, and beyond. What is the best advice you have ever received? To be creative, always have a sense of humour, and don’t try to do it all on my own. Why is Workplace inclusion important? A diverse workforce is a stronger work force. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, having people employed at a company with a wide range of abilities can enhance the work of everyone. www.supportedemployment.ca Thank you for following along with our #Mentorability features!

Meet Amy Widdows Provincial Coordinator for Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN)! Amy is a committed connector who is passionate about inclusive employment and using collaboration, relationship development and capacity building as tools to increase employment opportunities for people experiencing disabilities. Her vision for an inclusive Ontario is what guides her to break down barriers and discover people’s gifts and talent. What energizes you about your role?... I am energized to be part of this National initiative that has only positive impacts for all stakeholders. The ability for me to participate in this pilot that has already seen so much success in such a short time reignites my passion for my work. What inspired you to pursue the career you have today? I am most engaged in positions that allow innovation and challenge change. This career offers me those opportunities, and I get to be a small part of the increase in opportunities that people who have a disability are finding in Ontario. Why is Workplace inclusion important? Workplace Inclusion is essential to ensure that all people hold value, belong, feel and are seen as an equal contributor to their team/or workplace. www.supportedemployment.ca Stay tuned for our next #Mentorability feature!
