BBQ safety tip! Its national grilling month and throughout the whole month of July, we are featuring tips and tricks specially designed for you to help get the most out of this grilling season. This week, we want to focus on your safety! For our last BBQ tip this month, we want to talk about BBQ safety. BBQ flare-ups and grease fires can be very dangerous if they get out of control. Putting water on fire may be our first instinct, but it can worsen the situation for both you ...and your BBQ. Pouring water onto an open flame or grease fire can cause the fire to grow rapidly. As the water evaporates on the hot metal, it can carry grease particles in the air, further spreading the fire. Pouring water on a hot grill can also cause the porcelain enamel finish of your grill to crack! The best thing to do when experiencing BBQ flare-ups is to simply move your food away from the flair up spots, turn the burners off, and put the lid down on the grill. This will reduce the amount of oxygen, eliminating flare-ups and potential danger. In the event of a serious uncontrolled grease fire or flare-up, always call 911 as soon as possible. One of the best ways to avoid flare-ups all together is to clean your grill more often! By removing old grease and grime there is less fuel for a fire to burn in the event of a flare-up. A clean grill also ensures you are getting the best flavor and cooking experience with your BBQ. TGIF! This week we have a fun little tip to easily find out how much propane you have left in your tank! Start by pouring warm water over the side of the propane tank, then wait a few moments while the water runs off. Next, run your hand down the side of the propane tank to see which section remains warm and which sections have cooled off. When you feel a sudden change in temperate from warm to cold, you have found where the propane is filled up too! This is a great trick for... all the dedicated grillers who use lots of propane.
