The City of Grande Prairie’s Mandatory Face Coverings (Masks) Bylaw C-1426 trigger point has been reached, meaning that face coverings and masks in indoor space...s are now required within the City as of October 26, 2020. The bylaw is in effect for indoor, enclosed or substantially enclosed public places. It was triggered by a combined total active case number of over 100 within the City and County. The City of Grande Prairie thanks all residents for their diligence, understanding, and cooperation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using face coverings or masks is an additional layer of protection against the spread of COVID-19 and will help protect the health of the public and the economy. Quick appreciation post for Better than Freds, specifically the owner John Kriska! He took initiation and compassion for inclusiveness. I went to Better than F...reds for the first time about a year ago, I went to play pool. There are two levels in the bar and I wasn’t able to get up to the first level due to there being stairs. I wasn’t overly concerned as I just came to play pool. I started going there on a regular basis and one day I showed up and I noticed an aluminum ramp. John took it upon himself, without consulting me, to build a ramp so I could access all of the bar and be apart of everything just like everyone else. This warmed my heart and put a smile on my face. In a world of constant reminders that we don’t belong (wheelchair users) and that the worlds not set up for us, it was a vision of hope and gratitude for me to see. To feel welcomed. To feel included. Small gestures like this is what we need more of in the world. It wasn’t that hard to do, and he honestly didn’t have to, but it’s the fact he wanted me to feel more included.
