GIVING TOGETHER: HOW GENEROUS FAMILIES IN CANADA ARE NAVIGATING FAMILY CONTINUITY AND COMMUNITY Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 12PM EDT Families are important drivers of philanthropy in Canada, with family enterprises alone accounting for more than 60% of Canada’s GDP. This philanthropic capacity and influence requires us to think more deeply about families who give together.... Drawing from her recent research on family philanthropy in Canada, and her experience working with generous families internationally, Dr. Sharilyn Hale will share current trends and her insights on how philanthropy is helping families achieve both family and community objectives. Why do families give together? How are they giving? How are they engaging across generations and geography? What do they need to be effective? This session is geared to families that give together, professional advisors to families, and those who work with philanthropic families in the charitable community. About Dr. Sharilyn Hale, C.Dir, MFA-P Dr. Sharilyn Hale helps those who give, give well. As President of Watermark Philanthropic Counsel, she enables philanthropists and their families to unearth and achieve their philanthropic goals, integrating her expertise in philanthropic strategy, family engagement, organizational development, and governance. With a career spanning the philanthropic sector, Sharilyn’s doctoral research focused on governance and family philanthropy in Canada, shedding light on how families approach giving together. The resulting Family Philanthropy Governance Model she developed serves as a valuable roadmap for generous families. Sharilyn is an advisor with 21/64 to support multi-generational family philanthropy, is a Chartered Director, and holds the Master Financial Advisor Philanthropy (MFA-P) credential.
