PBS NewsHour, 18 November 2020: "German prosecutors today asked for life imprisonment for a right-wing extremist charged with killing two people last year outside a synagogue in Germany's east. That comes as calls grow to investigate the extent of neo-Nazi infiltration of the country's security services; 1,400 cases of far right extremism among soldiers, police officers and intelligence agents have been documented over the past three years, a frightening echo of Germany's past."

"By the end of the 90s corporate journalists were feverishly dehumanizing young blacks ... The superpredator language began a process of allowing us to suspend our feelings of empathy towards young people of color. ... From the moment the term was born, 25 years ago this month, superpredator had a game-changing potency, derived in part from the avalanche of media coverage that began almost immediately." Black Agenda Report reviews the history of a term first popularized by a criminology professor, which then rapidly informed Democratic and Republican law-and-order policies and corporate media distortions about crime.

"What I learned led me to conclude that a toxic culture prevails in the RCMP. This culture encourages, or at least tolerates, misogynistic, racist, and homophobic attitudes among many members of the RCMP," wrote [former Supreme Court justice] Michel Bastarache in his final report released Thursday... "The problem is systemic in nature and cannot be corrected solely by punishing a few 'bad apples.'" Canadians have paid settlements for RCMP wrongdoing in amounts that are jaw-dropping.

This report by the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights and the Montana Human Rights Network explores the breadth and depth of the network of white supremacists, paramilitary groups, anti-maskers, conspiracists, preppers, anti-vaxxers, and others organized by Ammon Bundy. "Marking the 50th anniversary of Salvador Allende’s inauguration, the National Security Archive today [November 3, 2020] posted a collection of documents that provide a detailed record of how and why President Nixon and his national security advisor, Henry Kissinger, established and pursued a policy of destabilization in Chileoperations that 'created the conditions as best as possible,' as Kissinger later put it, for the September 11, 1973, military coup that brought General Augusto Pinochet to power. The detailed deliberations and decisions they contain clarify the misrepresentations by former policy actors over the years, Kissinger among them, of the true intent of the Nixon administration posture toward the Allende government."

Historians Gerald Horne (University of Houston), author, most recently, of The Dawning of the Apocalypse: The Roots of Slavery, White Supremacy, Settler Colonialism, and Capitalism in the Long Sixteenth Century and Nikki Taylor (Howard University), author, most recently, of Driven Towards Madness: The Fugitive Slave Margaret Garner and the Tragedy on the Ohio, appeared last week on the first 36 minutes of The Real New Network’s new Marc Steiner Show. They talked about the history of and resistance to fascist violence against Indigenous and Black communities in the US.
