Canadian Freight Railcar Gallery 26.01.2021

A link came up in another forum to this AAR document which has surprisingly detailed roster and configuration information for intermodal cars in service (revised date 2017). https://aar.com//AAR%20Loading%20Capabilities%20Guide%2020

One last one for today... Another 450 car group of ex-Southern Plate B boxcars were leased by CN from Progress Rail Services in 1999 for a 5-year term in the series SLGG 10000-10449. These cars had reinforced ends and vents in the upper corners of the car sides for wet pulp service.

Another 200 car group of SLGG boxcars in the series 10700-10899 (originally built in 1969 by Pullman-Standard for Southern Railway as part of the group SOU 19000-19999) were leased in 1999 to Canadian National Railway. In 2004 the entire group was renumbered to CNA 417360-417557.

Another group of 100 cars leased to Ontario Northland was SLGG 11200-11299, leased in 2001 from Progress Rail Services for metal products service out of Kidd near Timmins, ON. These seem to have disappeared in 2010 with the closure of the Timmins smelter.

Was doing some poking around on the US Surface Transportation Board web site and out of curiousity a search for Ontario Northland turned up some interesting lease information. ATW 111030 is one of 33 cars formerly bearing GNRR reporting marks leased to Ontario Northland by Infinity Rail in 2006. Presumably these were leased for service for refined copper and zinc products from the Kidd Metallurgical Site in Timmins, ON. Kidd closed the smelter and related facilities in 2010, leaving only the ore concentrator and ore concentrate is now shipped to the Horne smelter in Rouyn-Noranda.

This 50' boxcar was built in 2004 by National Steel Car for Southern Railway of British Columbia as part of a 100 car group SRY 5450-5549, and still bears its original colours and the logo of SRY's parent company the Washington Group. Later sold to Norfolk Southern, it has most recently been updated to the reporting marks COER, which officially translates to the Crab Orchard & Egyptian Railroad, although this is one of those obscure shortline reporting marks that's become quite popular on a disproportionate amount of equipment, so it seems to be one of those "marks of convenience" used under some agreement by one of the major leasing/fleet management companies. I'm not quite sure in this case who really owns/manages the COER fleet though.

With the "social isolation" efforts for the pandemic, I've had time to do a fair bit of updating on the site lately. The latest update brings the total index to over 73,000 photos. http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/updates/march2020.html
