Canadian Immigration Law 25.11.2020

Trump and Canadian immigration. Donald Trump seems intent on making aspiring and new Americans feel insecure. Maybe this will lead to a shift in where migrant families and talent want to go. Canada has its own tech sector, much of it tied into Silicon Valley. If the Donald wants to chase highly skilled workers out of the USA maybe some of them will choose to relocate to Canada.... What's more is that Canadian talent is sophisticated and, being right next door, easily accessible to US industry. These may prove to be a good thing for Canadian industry and Canadian workers both permanent residents and citizens. It may also create opportunities for non-Canadian (foreign) workers. Canada has many immigration programs that grant permanent residence to foreign workers. The one most often used to recruit foreign workers is call the Federal Skilled Worker program. Under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program foreign workers can become permanent residents (which can lead to citizenship) if they can do one of two things. First, if a Canadian employer has identified this kind of skilled worker as essential to their Canadian business but cannot find a qualified Canadian to do the job the employer can ask for permission to hire a non-Canadian (foreign) worker. Second, foreign workers will have their credentials assessed against a point system (points are awarded for work experience, education levels and more) and those who earn enough points will be invited to apply for permanent residence without already having a Canadian employer involved.
