ART SHOW and POETRY BAZAAR!!! PERFORMANCE NIGHT!! ART SHOW and POETRY BAZAAR Well be holding a kind of show-and-tell-and-sell night on Friday, May 5th to go along with our exhibition of artists works. If you have any books, broadsides, or other items youd like to sell or swap, bring them along, and well set you up with a table. If you do visual poetry or multimedia art and would like to display your work, weve got a space. If youre a collector and you have some pieces y...oud like to show off, wed love to see them. Weve set aside two large rooms as exhibition spaces and wed like to fill them with as much interesting poetry-related stuff as we can. Contact Robert at [email protected] with your details or if you have any questions. PERFORMANCE NIGHT We are very excited that Jordan Abel will be performing on Saturday night, May 5th. We would like to follow up his reading with an open mic for symposium participants. So, if youd like to read or show or perform some of your own work (max. 3 minutes) please let us know! The talent pool for this symposium is pretty deep, so we think it will make for an extraordinary night. Email Claire at [email protected] to get on the list.

Panels will begin bright and early on Friday, May 4th and run into the afternoon of Sunday, May 6th. If you have any questions about registration or booking accommodations, please let us know. Happy new year, everyone! We'd like to apologize for the delay in sending registration materials. We've run into technical difficulties with the online registration process but we hope to have registration up and running within the next few weeks. In the meantime, our planning continues and we'll have more exciting updates soon.

Hi Everyone, I submitted the SSHRC grant application yesterday. Many thanks to Claire for her help with it. Fingers crossed. We'll find out in January whether we've been successful. Either way, we're going forward and the Symposium is going to be amazing. It's a question of whether we'll be eating Kraft Dinner or steak, so to speak. We hope to have online registration set up by the end of November. Stay tuned.

Thanks to everyone who submitted proposals! We will be getting in touch with you very soon. For those of you not presenting, but interested in attending, we hope to have online registration up and running by sometime in November. I will continue to post updates as things fall into place.

Today is the deadline for submissions! We've had an excellent response so far, but there are still a few hours left to get your own proposal in.

Call for Papers: Kanada Koncrete: Material Poetries in the Digital Age How have digital technologies changed the way we create and understand poetry and the poetic? How, in particular, have the new media conditioned the production and dissemination of material(ist) forms of poetic art, whether established or emergent? How have practitioners taken advantage of the multi-media possibilities of the internet and social media, the productive and reproductive possibilities of dig...itization, the computerization of inscription and composition in three dimensions? Have we finally achieved the necessary conditions for a truly 'verbi-voco-visual' work, the one-time dream of the modernist avant-garde? At the very least we can say that something has changed in the manner we make and encounter poetry. Even so, critical tools for discussing new forms of poetry as well as the changed circumstances affecting existent works and practices are wanting. So, too, is there a critical vacuum with respect to the role of technology and digitization in modes of oral and performance-based poetries. Kanada Koncrete: Material Poetries in the Digital Age hopes to address these gaps, among others. The symposium will take place over three days, May 4-6 2018, at the University of Ottawa. We seek papers and artists talks related to the preceding and to any of the following topics (presentations with a Canadian focus will be especially welcome): sound poetry and sonic experiments visual concrete poetry in performance transcorporeal poetics animated poetry/ video poems poetry and social media web-based and digital poetries comics poetry / poetry and comics treated texts poetry and photography poetry installations poetics of the found activist poetries collecting and archiving non-print poetry teaching Canadian poetry 'off the page' Deadline for 300-word paper proposal or artist talk description: September 25, 2017.
