Great to see some rain for our rivers, trout happiness
Nothing like a Father proudly watching his son learn how to fly fish. These guys were awesome, learning how to fish streamers and nymphs like old pros in record time!
Streamers and stonefly patterns (both the dry and nymph) are the ticket this week on the Bow as the river continues to clear from runoff. The river is fishing consistently well! This nice rainbow hammered a #4 bow river bugger streamer along a cliff section of the river as I was "pounding the banks." The hits come fast, as all I saw was a silver flash, and then the fish was on. Streamers are a very exciting way to fish the river, and should continue to produce this week as the water is still carrying a bit of color.
Getting my 8 month old started early hhaha nice morning on the beach in fish creek park
I lost a big fish demonstrating how to fish streamers, and we're all still smiling, that's what fly fishing is all about :) One thing I learned from that fish that I can pass on was that if you get a large "bump" on a swung streamer, it can pay to recast to the same spot. I think it was the same fish, the way it aggressively smashed the fly on the second swing, likely following it across the current. I think the fish only followed the second time, and when I started strippin...g the fly at the end of the swing, it absolutely hammered the streamer. I almost was in my backing when it wrapped around a rock and then it was gone soon after....love the Bow river.
The fish are starting to look up, and the forecast looks like the river will continue to clear this week. We should have excellent dry fly fishing soon. I caught this large brown trout today on a foam stone dry fly pattern. tight lines Adam
The Bow river is lowering and very fishable with visability at about 2 feet. We were out tonight, and swinging the wet fly was the ticket, likely with all of the caddis around. Great job! This is a picture of another student catching their first bow river trout.... Hatch update: there were stonefly shucks on the rocks as well, as they are starting to show up. I hope everyone catches some great fish this long weekend. tight lines Adam
