ENDORSEMENT TIME! There was some debate as to whether this Facebook page should be endorsing any party during elections. This page is not unbiased. Its goal is to help bring fair, representative elections to Canada, so we will endorse the party that gives us the best chance for reform. Last federal election we endorsed the NDP, as we believed they were the best option to bring reform. In this BC Election, that party is clearly the Green Party of BC. The BC Liberals campaign...ed against PR during the referendum, so they are automatically ruled out. The NDP are ruled out because they in many ways were worse than the BC Liberals. They claimed to support reform, but failed to legislate it. Then, they set up a referendum that was doomed to fail, and afterwards, washed their hands of the issue. They actually harmed our chances for PR more than they helped them. They seem to be so comfortable with FPTP, that they would take advantage of slightly higher opinion polls, and call a snap election to gain a false majority. Yet another example of the problems with FPTP. The BC Greens have consistently supported reform, and are currently our best chance for fair elections. While I am concerned that they didn't use their time holding the balance of power to force reform through, making sure they elect enough MLA's to get a second try is our best chance at the ballot box right now. There are many different issues to consider this election, which are all valid and may sway your vote in various ways, but for electoral reform, the Green's really are the only option. And before anyone asks, this page is not affiliated with any political party in any way.
There may be an opportunity to get the NDP to push for electoral reform in this minority government.
Toronto! Tomorrow your city council is voting on whether to adopt ranked ballots. Now is the time to email, phone, and tweet at your councillors and say you support this change! https://twitter.com/TorontoRaBIT/status/1310724104425738243
Election time in BC! This article written after the previous election shows which ridings were affected by vote splitting. Will be interesting to see what happens this time, and if the NDP's decision not to fix the electoral system will come back to haunt them. https://www.cbc.ca//b-c-votes-2017-ridings-where-vote-spli
New Brunswick just elected a false majority government. Under First Past The Post, a minority of voters (39.5%) elect a government that now wields 100% of the legislative power. If you're tired of minority rule and want your vote to actually matter, follow our page for more information on how to support electoral reform in New Brunswick and across Canada!
A new poll commissioned by Fair Vote Canada has found that Canadians overwhelmingly support electoral reform. Check out the results at the link below!
