Green: like the Art deco entrance of Park Lane, a residential building on Bernard Avenue in Montreal. This building was constructed in 1940 and is the work of Jewish architect Max M. Kalman (19062009). Check out the amazing use of glass blocks diffusing the green colour of the marble entrance. Happy St.-Patrick’s day!... Thank you to all CSDA members and guests who attended this year’s Marian Bradshaw Lecture Series: The Legacy of the Bauhaus, as presented by Marcin Kedzior, director of the Centre of Cultural Landscape Willowbank. One of the many artists touched on in the lecture was Anni Albers (18991994). Albers is one of the most influential textile designers of the last century and a leader of the modern weaving movement. She attended the Bauhaus in 1922 before leaving Germany in 1933 ...when the school closed under the pressure of Nazi power. From 1935, she became increasingly devoted to the textiles of ancient America and was dedicated to creating a link between ancient craft and modern art. See how Bauhaus designs by Albers were manufactured by Knoll.
