Green: like the Art deco entrance of Park Lane, a residential building on Bernard Avenue in Montreal. This building was constructed in 1940 and is the work of Jewish architect Max M. Thank you to all CSDA members and guests who attended this year’s Marian Bradshaw Lecture Series: The Legacy of the Bauhaus, as presented by Marcin Kedzior, director of the Centre of Cultural Landscape Willowbank. One of the many artists touched on in the lecture was Anni Albers (18991994). Albers is one of the most influential textile designers of the last century and a leader of the modern weaving movement. She attended the Bauhaus in 1922 before leaving Germany in 1933 ...when the school closed under the pressure of Nazi power. From 1935, she became increasingly devoted to the textiles of ancient America and was dedicated to creating a link between ancient craft and modern art. See how Bauhaus designs by Albers were manufactured by Knoll. Homage, a collection of 40 framed neckpieces created as a celebration and tribute to Canadian women, is heading to New Brunswick: It will be showing at St John Arts Centre from July 3rd to September 4th, and at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery from October 24th to February 21st, 2021.
