Swimming is one of the most popular sports in Canada. For the last eight years our country has been routinely churning out Olympic and Paralympic athletes who have made a splash in the international scene. Much of this success stems from the work of John Atkinson, Swimming Canada’s Director of High Performance, who has been fine-tuning their athlete pathway incrementally since taking the reins following the 2012 Olympics. And now the organization has announced the launch of a...n innovative new athlete development philosophy. Learn more here https://bit.ly/3lXpayd

When it comes to developing physical literacy in the classroom, it’s important to stay humble and to identify your allies or at least that was the takeaway for Adam Knowlson, an outdoor education teacher for the Langley School District who participated in the School Physical Activity and Physical Literacy Project’s Summer Institute this past July. https://bit.ly/37Tg815

As per the International #PhysicalLiteracy Association definition and Canada’s Physical Literacy Consensus Statement there are four essential and inter-connected elements. Do you know them? @PhysLitGuy

Sport for Life 11.09.2020

Active for Life and the Government of Canada funded a Proof of Concept study to determine the potential benefits of daily physical literacy and active play in child care settings. We were thrilled to discover that not only did children benefit in terms of language and communication, creativity, and focus, they were better able to self-regulate. As a result, educators found they spent less time managing challenging behaviours and were more engaged in play with the children. Families also saw positive changes in their children at home. This webinar will describe the study design, intervention tools, and results. A brief video will share firsthand experiences of the study. Register here: https://bit.ly/3p6UlJ5
