We’re celebrating National Forest Week in Canada! Canfor planted 64 million seedlings on our tenures in 2019 and we just completed a successful summer of tree planting! Virtually 100% of Canfor-owned tenures are certified by either the Forest Stewardship Council or Sustainable Forestry Initiative. #NationalForestWeek #forestry Photo | Close up of a spruce seedling from Canfor’s nursery, JD Little Forest Centre in BC, where we grow roughly nine million trees each year for our tree-planting programs.
We’re raising awareness about National Forest Week and our valuable renewable resource with Canadian Institute of Forestry / Institut forestier du Canada, BC Council of Forest Industries and Forest Products Association of Canada Learn more about how healthy forests benefit us all now and for the future. http://www.cif-ifc.org/national-forest-week/ #NationalForestWeek #forestry
We’re delighted to announce that Katy Player, Vice President, People and Communications, is the gold winner for HR Leader of the Year at the Canadian HR Awards. She is being recognized for her outstanding achievements and contributions to the HR profession and for her strategic and operational leadership at Canfor. Thanks for being so instrumental in our global workforce planning and bringing together a great HR team.
We are proud to receive the silver award for Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion at the Canadian HR Award, which recognizes the significant progress we’ve made. Canfor is committed to building a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture to support and empower our employees through intentional programming, understanding and actions. Over the past year we’ve ramped up our I&D programming which includes establishing a Diversity Council, training for all employees on unconscious bias, educating on Indigenous cultural awareness, and expanding our successful mentorship program. While we’re proud of the progress we’ve made, there is still a lot of great work to be done and we’re continually motivated to do better.
Eric Andersen is our Woodlands Information Management (WIM) Analyst, in simple terms, he’s our data and mapping expert. He works with data to streamline productivity and find solutions. For example, Eric and his team will analyze data from cutblocks such as a tree’s species, height and age to better understand our forests and create detailed maps. Thanks Eric and the WIM team for developing solutions and supporting the Woodlands team!
Watch this short video about Alberta’s forest industry. https://youtu.be/idnyQDqzvMs Did you know that before a single tree is cut, forestry companies prepare a 200-year plan that's approved by the Government of Alberta? The plans start with a full environmental assessment of the area, including water sources, wildlife habitats, tree species, ages and quantities, soil quality and other important considerations. The details of the harvest are planned to maintain essential features of the site and set the stage for successful regeneration. Thanks Alberta Forest Products Association for sharing!
