Nickname: Abi Hometown: Calgary, AB Ski Club: Altius Nordic club... "Being an athlete is a 24/7 job! Along with the stress of living out of a suitcase and moving to a different country every 4 days while juggling training and school, the financial stress associated with international flights, accommodations, that come with high performance sport can be difficult. Each sport has endless little moments of balance, beauty and power that are really hard to fathom unless you're the one doing it... Rower and CAN Fund recipient Jakub Buczek has helped us out by describing the feeling of this exact moment in this picture. "Rowing is a sport that often requires the balancing of forces that seem to be at odds with one another: intensity with relaxation, poise with reckless abandon, urgency with patience. The part of the rowing stroke where t...his dichotomy is perhaps the most critical is at the "catch" - the moment when the blade enters the water, as seen in this photo." -Jakub Buczek CAN Fund has 827 Summer AND Winter athletes to support and 5 million dollars to raise. With a donation of $10 or more you will find out the name of the athlete you supported and receive a tax receipt. Link to make a donation: https://bit.ly/2OdqkcR Rowing Canada Aviron

This reaction video is everything! Yesterday during the CAN Fund Behind The Scenes Tuesday Takeover, Arthur Margelidon had the opportunity to surprise his judoka teammate, Antoine Valois-Fortier as a 2020 CAN Fund Recipient! The support from CAN Fund will impact my journey in so many ways, but most importantly it will allow me to adapt to all the last minute changes and uncertainty of 2021. We are still in the Olympic qualification process and there are many training camps... and competitions coming up. Knowing that I will be able to support the financial stress of that is incredibly helpful! I can’t thank CAN Fund and their donors enough. I kept asking Arthur if he was serious...best surprise ever! - Antoine Valois-Fortier, multiple CAN Fund Recipient Become a CAN Fund Donor and make more moments like this possible for our Canadian athletes! To this day, I barely remember what happened during the actual competition. I did not win a medal but I came in 12th place in an event that no Canadian had competed in for 84 years. I was so happy! It finally hit meI did it. When the competition was over, I was talking to a reporter and she asked me a question that I will never forget, How does it feel? Right then and there I started to cry. My dream came true, was my response. - James Steacy Hammer throw athlete, Jame...s Steacy, shares the moment it all sunk in that he had achieved his dream of representing Canada at the 2008 Summer Games. After trying out many different sports as a kid, he was hooked on hammer throw as soon as he picked up a hammer.
