Canine Action Project 13.05.2021

We'd like to send a HUGE shout out and sincere thank you to the Grade 6 Class at JH Moore Elementary in Lashburn. They held a fundraiser selling seed packets and achieved their goal of raising $2,000 for CAP! Wow! The money from their fundraiser will go toward our Shared Cost Spay/Neuter Program that provides affordable spay/neuter options for low income families in our partner First Nations communities. Thank you SO much for your support

Reminder to everyone that chocolate, xylitol (sweetner) and Easter Lillies are extremely dangerous to your pets! Avoid expensive after hours vet visits by taking extra precautions this Easter season.

Wow! Over the past few weeks, we have received an abundant supply of dog & cat food, kennels and linens from our very good friends at Cochrane & Area Humane Society, Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society - AARCS and KAWS Animal Rescue. We'd also like to send a special shout out to Elk Ridge Resort for donating their old supply of sheets and towels. Thank you SO much for your generosity and sharing the love

The weather is warming up, the snow is melting.. spring is on the way! Which also means porcupine activity will be on the rise in the coming weeks. Quill removal at a vet clinic can cost anywhere between $200-$800. Avoid an expensive vet bill by preventing an unwanted encounter between your dog and a porcupine!

CAP volunteers made a quick visit to Cupcake today. Cupcake was a feral dog and is now a CAP Alumni that took us almost 2 years to successfully trap. She was finally trapped and spayed in January 2019 and returned to the property that she had taken up residence at. We had originally asked the homeowners to provide food, water and shelter for her to live out the rest of her days, which they agreed to. Since then, Cupcake has become a cherished member of their family. She sti...ll keeps her distance from humans but is often seen playing with their Pug, Tiko and has come to trust the family members, especially the dad of the household. He is able to feed her treats and she is comfortable to sit beside him and relax when he's out on the deck. This past summer, we provided an insulated dog house to her family to ensure she stays nice and toasty in the winter months as she continues to age. These are the success stories that CAP strives for and prides itself on. We are so grateful to Cupcake's family for the frequent updates and excellent care they provide for her.

WANTED We are in search of a used 20ft to 40ft sea can in good condition. We require more storage space for donated dog food, kennels and supplies. It would be a bonus if the sea can is located in the Lloydminster area for ease of transporting it to our location HOWEVER we are flexible! As a small volunteer operated charity, our budget is limited to under $4,000. If you or anyone you know has a sea can they're looking to get rid of, please get in touch with us! ... [email protected] Please share!

Everyone loves puppies but it's important to remember that pets are a financial and long-term responsibility. There are lots of things to consider when adding a dog to your family.

DEC 24TH UPDATE: HE'S BEEN CAUGHT!!! Thank you to everyone who shared this post and reported sightings. Our live humane trap worked and he is at the Battlefords Animal Hospital for a check up to make sure everything is okay after his big adventures. UPDATE ON THE ESCAPED DOG: Volunteers were out all day today in the Battlefords area. It appears he is hanging out in a large area between Humpty's and the Don Ross Arena. ... Two live humane traps have been set. *PLEASE! DO NOT FEED HIM OR ATTEMPT TO CATCH HIM!* We need him to be hungry in order to go into the live trap. He WILL NOT come to you, no matter how much you try to coax him. Please continue to report any sightings to the Battlefords Animal Hospital at 306-446-8387 or Monique @ 1-306-830-1979 (can text this number too). Thank you so much to all of you that have shared our post, reported sightings and offered to help. We are confident that we will catch him. <3
