Training classes are on!!
Proud to be part of this wonderful rescue organization - and part of the team that won best online newsletter about dogs in North America again this year! March's edition with my article on puppy play - across their ages and pandemic. https://www.speakingofdogs.com//03/SOD_Newsletter_MAR2021.
Puppy Kindergarten and Manners level classes at Canine Campus always include social interaction, because it is a critical element of learning! https://www.companionanimalpsychology.com//puppy-play-esse
This is such an excellent idea for dogs like Goat who absolutely hate having their nails cut! https://drsophiayin.com//nail-boards-an-alternative-to-cl/
I'm a huge fan of proper use of a crate to keep puppies safe at night and also help with housetraining!
We've got our High Anxiety class for settling the stressed dog on the schedule in March ! This class works on strategies to manage fear, anxiety and the potential aggression caused by these emotions. Most aggression is not innate, but a defence mechanism. We work on skills to build confidence and change their perception of the world around them. Wednesdays at 8:45 starting on March 3rd. Let us help bring back the dog that you love so much!
Resource guarding is one of the biggest owner concerns that I deal with on an ongoing basis. There is lots of misinformation out there about sticking your hands in the food bowl to show that you can... Please don't do this, it only adds stress. Dropping treats in the bowl is a far happier method for one and this article goes far deeper into the situation. https://www.myfantasticfriend.com//food-guarding-dont-pla/
Classes are STILL ON at Canine Campus - we are NOT affected by the stage 2 in York Region. We were designated an essential business in May, as the importance of learning with social interactions for puppies - and kids - is recognized!
Always make it fun for your dog to come back to you when called - on leash or off! The most important skill you'll ever teach and it will only work consistently if it's fun and motivational. Toss a toy, give a hug, drop a treat! https://www.wildthingdogtraining.com//how-to-ruin-your-dog
An excellent article looking at why Alpha based training methods aren't based on science. Plus some super cute pups up for adoption! https://www.speakingofdogs.com//10/SOD_Newsletter_OCT2020.
It's so important to respect our dog's space and not overwhelm them! Scooping them up unannounced, tight hugs (cause we want them..) are things that can be so uncomfortable - and lead to bites. Particularly a concern with small breeds, who may have this happen for life! https://www.patriciamcconnell.com//im-little-and-adorable-
It's so important to have a solid 'stay' when poo picking - especially in the crazy fall squirrel season! You don't want your attention diverted to the job and then have them take off on you! (Leashes dropped to take picture, not a recommendation!)
