Here is Nui. She really really liked the ball and would lunge and jump to get at it. We broke down behaviours to help her learn what was expected is being able to follow simple instructions even though the ball was involved. We are now working on utilizing these same skills so she can successfully (calmly quietly) walk past other dogs. I'm so proud of the success here! My favourite students are the students who follow and practice the training plan we decide on ... Want to be teachers pet? Do the homework!! Well done!! ~Jane See more

Positive reinforcement training is considered boring entertainment. It looks slow. It is kind and ethical. Studies show positive training creates a much more trusting human/dog bond. BUT it doesn't sell advertising space. Some people don't want to watch happy; they want to see a trainer get bit. Some people need that illusion of control that compulsive, fear based tv folks sell to be true. Compulsive training is sad. It is sad for dogs. It is sad for humanity that coercion ...could be considered a norm in building a shared relationship with our furry companions that depend on us for everything in their lives. I'll be cancelling my Netflix account if this airs. ~Jane See more

Interesting - it gets us accustomed to the idea of larvae/bugs as a food source. "It's unclear where Purina obtains the bugs the company uses in its food." And please, get in the habit of ignoring anything PETA says! If you own a cat, they MUST have an animal proteins source...no vegan cats!! ~Jane

Words of wisdom I learned years ago from Suzanne Clothier is to always remember to stop and ask "how's this for you, dog?" The following article explains this concept. Choice and predictability leads to safety. Safety leads to a good life for both ends of the leash. ~Jane
