Canmore Bouldering Cave 12.11.2020

***UPDATE***** June 17 230pm. We will hold off (pun intended) on the sale of holds for now. The sale will NOT be held tonight. This will give us time to get organized. The cave is still for sale in its entirety but for $3500 including holds, walls, and flooring. Adding the holds for $500 to the original $3000 price is an incentive that would make it much easier for us to sell and manage. There has been enough interest to warrant pursuing that option. ... stay tuned for updates on this facebook page.

***Update: These have sold**** Alright, These 4 mats are up for auction. Money will go to pay the Cave’s closure/small debt. ... Reserve price: $100 each. Buy-it-now for $200 each. Comment your bid below, 4 highest bidders win, or first four to bid $200. Also, the flooring is for sale. $1/square foot includes the blue top and foam layer under. Show up with an X-acto knife and carve out your own pieces. We have 1000 sq ft of it. Great for making padded safe spaces for when you have panic attacks caused by COVID. Or a kid’s play room. Blue top is easy to wash with a hose or pressure washer. Please share and tag anyone who you think might be interested. Anything not sold risks going to the landfill. Questions: email [email protected]

We have some big news to share. The Cave (version 2.0 of our community bouldering gym) is upgrading! The board has decided that our current circumstance (i.e., COVID closure) offers an excellent opportunity to start a transition to an upgraded bouldering gym for the Canmore climbing community. As a result of this decision, the current Cave will be closing and will be liquidating most of its existing assets, including floor mats, holds, and anything else we can sell.... The first step will be to allow members to retrieve their belongings and equipment. Then we will sell and salvage all we can. Finally, we will need to dismantle everything and return the space in good condition. Stay tuned for more details. We have had a great working relationship with our landlord, https://www.rockymountainsoap.com/, and we will continue to support our favourite local soap company! They will take over the space we occupied as part of their expansion, so check out their new hand sanitizer products. We also owe a very, very special thank you to Nicholas from Virtual Fuzion Systems in Canmore (https://www.facebook.com/virtualfuzion/). The home automation technologies he implemented allowed us to stay open by automating payments, accepting drop-ins, and managing door access remotely and securely. These are solutions that are available for your homes, too, so check them out. Anyone interested in assisting with the decommissioning of the current Cave and/or working on Cave 3.0 please contact us here: [email protected]

Just an update after our board meeting, and a meeting with other co-ops across the country. Encouraging news: The Fredericton bouldering Coop is opening THIS WEEK on May 29th, others in low-risk areas soon to follow. Congrats to New Brunswick! Social distancing has paid off in the Maritimes and they are being rewarded for it. Their reopening is contingent on a few controls like time slots to prevent crowding, masks, liquid chalk, no communal chalk, 2m distancing via dots on the floor, and a members-only model. Have a look at their plan (https://www.fbcwall.com/time-slots) The Canmore bouldering cave will NOT open until Alberta gives it the Ok and we have a plan to keep members safe. In the meantime, you can prepare by ordering liquid chalk, masks, maintain distancing measures, and enjoy our great outdoor climbing in the valley.

The board will meet in the next couple of days to make a short term plan moving forward. Send us a message if you have thoughts or questions and we'll do our best to address them and provide answers. Send us a message if there have been financial issues that we are not aware of (e.g. payments being taken, etc). As far as I know, there are no outstanding unresolved issues. We intend to follow public health guidelines, so there is no talk about opening up just yet. We'll let... you know when we are there, but now is the time to plan for that and that's what we are doing. If anyone is interested in joining the board and helping out we could use some brains and manpower. Send us an email ([email protected]); tasks can be small and simple (cleaning, maintenance), to creative, to complex (e.g., administrative, construction).
