Some types of skin cancer can be detected through an eye exam. The eye and its surrounding tissues are among the most common areas of the body where skin cancer is first diagnosed. Wearing sunglasses and regular eye exams are great preventative steps! http://ow.ly/2jpe50AoaGU
Today is National Sunglasses Day! Today celebrates the importance of wearing your sunglasses throughout the year, regardless of whether its sunny or cloudy, warm or cold. - UV damage is cumulative, occurring over a lifetime of exposure. Children are extra vulnerable, so get them in the habit of wearing sunglasses early!... - Higher altitudes also share higher UV levels because the suns rays can easily penetrate the thin atmosphere. Need a new pair? Come check out our selection of Maui Jim, Rayban, Suncloud, and kids Babiator sunglasses! Make sunglasses a part of your everyday routine! #canmorefamilyeyecare #canmoreoptometrists #bestofthebow #nationalsunglassesday #sunglassesarecool

Canmore Family Eyecare will re-open on Monday, May 11th! Whilst we are excited to be back and offering extensive eyecare services, things are very different from when we closed our doors on March 19th due to Covid-19. Please know that we are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our clients and team members. Whats changed?... You will be asked a Covid-19 questionnaire when booking your appointment and again upon arrival into the clinic. You will be asked to wear a mask to your appointment, for both your safety and ours. We will only be allowing 2 people into the clinic at one time. Please attend your appointment on your own for this reason, (children and anyone requiring extra assistance excluded) and please arrive as close as possible to your appointment time. If you arrive and the door is locked please call us to confirm your arrival and we will let you in as soon as we can. You will be asked to hand-sanitize upon entering. In the waiting room please sit in the designated chairs to allow for physical distancing. You will be asked to refrain from speaking in the testing rooms unless you are asked a question by the Doctor. If you are here for new glasses, please allow us to assist you with trying on frames. All of our staff will be wearing masks. We will gown-up and glove-up as necessary. We are sanitizing surfaces regularly and all equipment between every patient. We are washing our hands both before and after each patient encounter. We have extra shields in place where necessary. All payments will be non-contact whenever possible and we will not accept cash. Credit card, debit and e-transfers are available for payment. We can still process your insurance with direct billing wherever possible. We will be open reduced hours, by appointment only in May. 10am-4pm weekdays. Appointments may include fitting for glasses as well as for eye exams and emergency appointments. Contact lens orders can continue to be done over the phone in an efficient manner and in most cases shipped directly to you. We look forward to seeing you back in the clinic to continue providing dedicated care for your vision and eyes. Dr. Jo, Dr. Jared, Jo-Anne, Natsuko and Jackie. #canmoreeyecare #canmoreoptometrist #bestofthebow #inthistogether #canmorestrong #staysafestaywell
Eyefoods plants are now in their new home in the Tower Garden! First night last night and we are VERY excited to see what happens in the coming days and weeks.
Im incredibly excited to start a journey growing a huge Tower Garden of Eye-Foods and share it with all of you! These little babies were planted 6 days ago and are raring to grow! So, whats in an Eye-Foods garden you ask? Arugula, Swiss chard, kale, kale and more kale (2 varieties), multiple lettuces, herbs, spinach, peppers and for fun some flowers and tomatoes. And if Im feeling brave I may try a squash too. (Got to get some orange veg in there!)... Today Im filling the tower with nutrients and water and soon I will plant the seeds into the tower. This was a fun stay-at-home project for Covid-19 that has evolved into an amazing educational lesson about nutrition and gardening for my whole family. So I thought I would share it with my Canmore Family Eyecare extended family too! Stay posted! Marcy Schmidt Laurie Capogna #canmoreeyecare #towergarden #eyefoods

Hi Canmore. Its been a really tough few days for many many people, both here and elsewhere. Im not going to say too much more about that, but if staying at home has allowed you to do something new or different then please comment here. Mine has been reading books, as well as cooking with lots of garlic and onions, since my hands are no longer near peoples faces! Ive had a chance to make some amazing salads that I would not normally have a chance to make each day.
Hi folks. Its Day 1 of the clinic being closed. This is what we woke up to today, there is no way not to be thankful for the fresh air and our freedom to go outside. I went to the local outdoor rink with my son and enjoyed some active time and outdoor time. (There was nobody else there). By practicing social distancing and adhering to self isolations where necessary we can maintain this freedom to be outside.
To Our Canmore Eyecare Friends, Families, and Community: To help contain the spread of COVID-19, the Alberta College of Optometrists and the Alberta Association of Optometrists has advised all optometrists to provide only urgent eye care for the time being. Effective immediately our office will be closed. ... We will be calling all of our patients with appointments to reschedule. We will have a doctor available if you have an eye emergency. Please call our office at 403-675-0965. We will be checking messages on a daily basis and we will return your calls within 48 hours. If you require contact lenses, we can still process orders and ship directly to you (no charge for shipping). Please leave a voicemail and we will be in touch. If you have glasses to be picked up, phone the office and leave a message so that we can make arrangements to get your glasses to you.
