June 21, the day we celebrate Indigenous peoples and all of the wonderful cultures that have lived on these lands for much longer than anyone else. In the spi...rit of respect, reciprocity and truth, I honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. I acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Finally, I acknowledge all Nations, indigenous and non, who live, work and play and help us steward this land, honour and celebrate this territory. I post this painting today, ‘Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump’ by Métis artist Tayler Schenkeveld because it consistently reminds me our my minor, but very important Indigenous roots through my great grandmother, who instilled within me a love of traditional craft and no doubt shaped my current career. Happy Solstice Friends. On the longest day of the year, and with Indigenous Peoples Day tomorrow, it is important to remember that food sovereignty and Indigeno...us Food Sovereignty is still an issue of utmost importance, especially in times like these. We must continue to fight and work towards changing the current narrative. It is broken, it doesn’t work, it does not offer sustainability. We must continue to challenge the laws set forth by colonialism and assimilation, dismantle these structures and seek alternatives of cultural value and sustainability. We must continue to fight to change the impact of years of assimilation that still affect Indigenous communities today and provide ecologically sound and sustainable access to culturally appropriate food sources and the right to define, produce and educate our people in both current and ancestral knowledge and learn these cultural values. We must seek out and fight for the best reform in policies that allow us and future generations to continue to participate in our cultural hunting, gathering and growing rights. Sustainability is key. Indigenous knowledge is sacred. Fight the good fight my friends. See more

Only $10.5 billion of a $45 billion budget used for wage subsidy, meanwhile over 8 million Canadians have been collecting CERB or EI. And the government is urgi...ng employers to take advantage of it..... trust me, it’s not the employers. A lot of employees seem pretty happy to just collect their CERB. This is a serious issue. Businesses are short staffed and many workers are sitting around enjoying the sunshine. The message should be: If you can work, you must work. EI isn’t a choice, it’s a service for those who NEED it. Get back to work people. Our economy needs us to support it!
