Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which aims to increase public awareness and highlight the accomplishments of people with disabilities. At Canoe Kayak Canada, we celebrate the achievements and contributions of our paddlers and know that disabilities come in many forms, not all of which are visible. Please visit our website for more information on Clubs offering PaddleAll and Para programs, and what CKC is doing to support athletes with disabilities. #IDPD #IDPD2020

Lest we forget. Today we remember and honour the sacrifices of brave men and women like National Para Team member Mike Trauner, and reflect on those who have lost their lives in war. MCpl Trauner spent 19 years with the Canadian Armed Forces before he was injured while on patrol in Afghanistan in December, 2008. #remembranceday #jourdesouvenir

CKC and the Indigenous Advisory Council (IAC) invite members and partner communities to register for an Indigenous programming information session tomorrow evening. Link in bio. Repost from @aboriginalsportcircle Today, September 30, 2020 is #OrangeShirtDay. Today, we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools. Phyllis Webstad wore an orange shirt given to her by her grandmother on h...er first day of school at St. Joseph's Mission residential school in BC. Upon her arrival, Phyllis' clothes including her new orange shirt were taken and never returned. For Phyllis, the color orange reminds her of her experience at residential school. "All of us children were crying and no one cared."The message that Phyllis wants to share today - and every day - is that every child matters. Every child matters. Chaque enfant compte.

Last week, at the Atlantic Championships in Dartmouth, where COVID-19 restrictions have allowed regattas, CKC Alumni and ADCKC Staff member, Garrett Horne, made a powerful statement on the Black Lives Matter movement at the opening of the race day. Garrett has been generous to share that message with our entire CKC community to open our Coast to Coast to Coast Challenge, and joined in a moment of silence. We continue to listen, learn and create action to be better....
