One year ago today we closed our doors for 10 weeks in response to the Global Pandemic. It took the support of many to make our way through this past year. A BIG THANK YOU to: Our Staff, you are THE BEST!... ICS Creative Agency for always being ready to help us get information out to our clients especially in those early weeks of closure and then again as we reopened. Our local colleagues, The SJ Dental Society The NB Dental Society, The All-Party Novel Coronavirus Committee, Dr. Jennifer Russell, and Patterson Dental Canada our supply company who kept us informed as to available PPE. Our AMAZING clients, who trusted us to provide a safe environment for their dental treatment and stuck with us through what seemed like endless changes. We are so very grateful to you all and we are hopeful for the year ahead of us! Thank you!

Proper dental hygiene doesn't end as you get older, in fact, you may have to take special steps to ensure that your teeth and gums remain in great health! If you find holding your toothbrush difficult because you have arthritis or some other health condition, try enlarging the handle with a sponge, several layers of aluminum foil or a bicycle handle grip. Or better yet try a power brush with a circular head - the handle is always bigger and the spin action reduces the need ...for dexterity. If flossing feels awkward or if your fingers always seem to get tangled, try using a plastic floss holder - your dentist or hygienist can recommend one. Have questions? Did you know that chocolate is the least harmful Halloween treat for your teeth? We recommend avoiding sticky candies as much as possible. This type of candy leaves behind particles that stick to your teeth, meaning the sugar lingers for a longer time. Most importantly, always brush those fangs...er...teeth! Happy Halloween!

Exciting news! If you have been lucky enough to have Erin as your hygienist youll be thrilled to know that she will no longer be part-time with us and will be full-time starting in July. We cant wait to have Erin in the office with us regularly! Lets hear it for Erin!

Emergencies happen and when they do thats where we come in. During the last few months we have been available for those in need of emergency care. Not sure what constitutes an emergency? There are three main common forms of emergencies we see: 1. Pain & Swelling 2. Uncontrolled Bleeding 3. Tooth which has been knocked out of place... Regardless of the emergency, we ensure you will be given the best care possible with the Canterbury you know and love. See more

We have some exciting news! We are thrilled to have our Hygienists joining us again! This means we are able to have you all return for your hygiene visits. To say we have missed you is an understatement. To prepare you for your next visit with us, its important to know things wont be exactly the same. To meet the pandemic protocol, the use of ultrasonic scalers (water spray) and polishers will not be permitted. With that being said, some things wont change! You will ...be greeted by a friendly face. You can have your teeth scaled with hand instruments. Your oral health will be assessed. You will receive guidance on your oral health and any areas of concern. X-rays and exams with the dentist will happen if you are due. Remember, good oral is not just about teeth, gum and bad breath. Our mouths are a portal to the rest of our system which can link to heart disease and digestion issues just to name a few. So, lets welcome back our top notch Hygienists!

BIG shout out to Canterbury Dentals very own front line front desk staff. These Ladies have been working tirelessly to stay within the guidelines set out by the province of New Brunswick, and our Dental Society. They have choreographed an effective and efficient schedule. As we welcome back Hygiene staff, with that comes another set of guidelines. As the Dentists and their Assistants work through many backlogged emergencies, our expertly choreographed schedule will cont...inue to change and change and change! We have some exciting news! We are so thrilled for Dr. Chad Tibbo and his amazing wife Erica as they have expanded their bubble family! Introducing Weston James Tibbo, born May 7th, 2020. Everyone is happy, healthy and doing well.

As many of you know the provincial government has given dental offices the go ahead to start the reopening phase. We are so eager to see you all again. We need and appreciate your continued patience as we take the necessary steps to reopen. This means implementing policies we have yet to receive from The NBDS, also waiting to obtain further PPE that is not yet available. ... We finally located Dr.John! He and his pal Yuri are cleaning up the yard. I suspect Yuri chases the leaves and sticks as the DR tries to gather them. Team effort!

Although our office is closed except for emergencies, we have been getting a few questions and wanted to share some information with you we thought would be helpful. Scientifically it is called an apthous ulcer, although many people will refer to them as canker sores. These are small shallow lesions that appear as a small white blister generally surrounded by redness. They can occur on the soft tissues of our mouth and tongue. Canker sores are often associated with burning.../stinging sensation when eating acidic salty foods. They may even present as a minor toothache in the area of the lesion. They do cause discomfort. Everything in the area may otherwise look okay to you. They are generally autoimmune-related and can be caused by trauma, stress, certain foods, or allergies. They will self usually heal within 7-10 days. Over the counter, topical agents such as Anbasol may provide some relief of symptoms. Immediate dental care is not required to treat canker sores. We hope this is helpful now, or in the future. #CanterburyDental

The time to act is now. Our New Brunswick Dental Association along with other provincial and federal jurisdictions are implementing an *emergencies only* policy for an *indefinite period of time*. As national health measures change, we will do our best to follow the most stringent guidelines to slow the spread of the virus. What does that mean to you, our valued Saint John community, patients and staff? We are coming up... with very stringent office guidelines to handle emergencies. We must limit contact and keep people spaced as much as possible when emergencies are being seen in person. This will dramatically lower the number of people that we can and will see directly. We will attempt to manage as many minor emergencies as we can with medication to avoid contact and spread. We will, however, see true and serious emergencies. This will be on a case by case basis and decided directly with the doctors. It is our job as dental health professionals, to see true emergencies to prevent excess load on the health care system and prevent as many people as possible from seeking out medical doctors and emergency hospital care for dental problems. In dentistry, a true emergency situation includes oral-facial trauma, significant infection, prolonged bleeding or pain which cannot be managed by over-the-counter medications. Current guidelines include and will change in time. We have decided: -Emergencies by appointment only -Only 1 patient in the office at one time -Care will be limited to emergencies as listed above, or any in-process work that must be completed to prevent further complications for a patient. We understand that this will impact you directly. We also understand that there are still a lot of unknowns that we can not answer. At this point, COVID 19 represents a very significant health care crisis. At this point, the health and welfare of New Brunswickers come first. As always practice good oral care, eat a healthy diet and drink lots of water. Stay tuned for more information as we will try to update information the best we can. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time for all.
