Here's a commissioned piece that I delivered on my recent gallery trip. Reina, who is the owner of Gallery 212 in Temagami asked me to create a piece to celebr...ate the 30th anniversary of her in-laws ownership of their tourist resort called Canusa on a Lake Temagami island. Canusa has welcomed guests from CANADA and the USA since May of 1986, and Brenda and Nelson should be proud of the hard work they have put in over the years, as well as the wonderful memories they have made. The piece entitled Island Memories, is a whimsical sculpture with elements that I have never included before. The cabin represents one of their favourite buildings to watch a sunset from, or toast the ice leaving the lake in the Spring. The plane represents Nelson's love of flying, and is actually a representation of the airplane he once owned. I think this piece could be a catalyst for people who may want their cottage or lakeside home depicted in a metal silhouette with stately pines nearby. It could be created in a freestanding piece or a panel, but of course it would always include all of my 3D techniques. Here is the description I wrote especially for them. Thanks Reina, and may Brenda and Nelson have many more wonderful memories on their special island. ISLAND MEMORIES How do you measure the passing of three decades of memories on an island gem? You recall the second and third generations of visitors who now call you friends. Children, followed by six grandchildren continue to fill your hearts with love and joy as they breathe new life into our appreciation of nature's wonders. A man's love of flight has assured that he was keeping it level, and always had his eyes on the horizon. She has been kind and caring, and always in tune to other's feelings in her work and in her play. As you sit quietly on the deck of Cabin #4 at ice-out, or at sunset's glow, rejoice in a job well done, and give thanks for all who have contributed to your immeasurable collection of warm and life changing island memories.
