The colors are just starting to show, you can't get better hiking weather. Why not check out MacKinnon's Brook meadow, newly bush hogged? We are trying to keep them clear in honor of the pioneers who worked these fields 200 years ago. It's a special feeling to wander through them. (Just watch out for wasp nests).

Several groups of hikers enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery. Leaves are just starting to show their colors.

Hike NS and Inverness County Recreation Dept sponsored a wonderful hike today on the trails. There were 18 folks out enjoying the perfect hiking conditions along with beautiful vistas and challenging hills.

View from The Edge of the Valley trail looking towards MacKinnon's Brook. Quite a variety of plants on the trail, spring beauties, blue bead lilies, bleeding hearts, Solomon's Seal ( we think), and trillium. Black flies were out.

The old bridge at the beginning of the MacEachen trail at Cape Mabou Trailhead has been replaced . Great job guys. An extremely muddy spot is now easy to cross. Take note of the snow bank "Cape Mabou Glacier ", this is June 1.

It was great hiking from the Cape Mabou Trailhead on the MacEachen trail down towards Sight Point with a loop up the beautiful Poet's Ridge Trail. The trail in places is lined with a carpet of spring beauties flowers as well as patches of bleeding heart.

Views from the beautiful Poet's Ridge trail. We are still cutting windfalls, lots on the MacEachen trail but don't let it stop you from hiking.

Our trails are open but be aware that there are numerous windfalls due to hurricane Dorian on most trails. We are attempting to clear these but it takes time. If you are out on the trails how about helping out by throwing off any branches you come across. Fall colors are starting to show, it's a great hiking season , the little toad thinks so. .

Another successful 3 Peaks Challenge on the Cape Mabou Highlands Hikings Trails. Great cool weather made it a pleasant but challenging trek for the 50 hikers. Several of the hikers spotted humpback whales breaching off MacKinnon's Brook trail, what a bonus!

Tomorrow is the last day to register for the 3 Peaks Challenge if you want a tshirt. You may register after that date but you wouldn't be able to get a tshirt as the orders need to be by tomorrow . This is just some of the many folks who came out for the Nova Scotia Nature Trust hike this morning. We couldn't have asked for a better day. Ian MacKinnon played the pipes on Fair Alistair 's look off, what a treat.
