Club 55 is a vital part of the downtown core and we want to support them however we can. ... Without their parking lot Club 55 would lose the bulk of its members and the threat of losing the place would be very real. It's just not an option for many of its members to park blocks away, it needs to be accessible for them. Club 55 has been an important hub for us new, very small businesses downtown. Louis Hawco was always there to help us whether it to be to borrow a few chairs to letting us use their parking lot or club to put on special events, dinners, pop up markets, clothing sales etc. I know Selkie's Neighbourhood Diner & The Mermaid Food Truck, @neck_o_the_woods, @theriverfilly, @jjsplantbasedeats, @backbeachgardens @lilslovables @highlandartstheatre Doktor Luke's - a respectable coffee house @capebretonfoodhub and a few others all benefitted from Club 55. Club 55 Members have been maintaining the lot for 50 years. They have tried to renew the lease to no avail. It's an important social spot for our neighbourhood seniors and we would lose one of very few downtown spaces affordable enough for small businesses to rent out. How can we feel secure as a business downtown if the Municipality can just ignore paperwork and annex spots with disregard to how completely detrimental it would be to that business-- once again in a total lack of fairness, forethought and transparency. We know Mayor MacDougall is involved in trying to work towards an equitable solution to the situation which is great. They aren't asking for much, just got the opportunity to keep up the lot they have been taking care of for 50 years. Happy Holidays!! It looks like today is going to be our last day open. We have a lot of orders ect to work on but we just can’t keep the store looking good. Update to add we are now at $1525! So proud of our little loop and for all the support we received taking this on! We raised $1465 so far and counting for the... Make a Wish foundation! Last night we lit the tree for the very first time and I’m so proud of how we handled keeping everyone safe with people coming by at staggering times ! It can be very frustrating when you feel your not being heard or respected. Running any form of business always comes with LOTS of ups and downs. However business owners are ready to tackle so many things on a daily bases just to be OPEN/RUNNING but feeling your fighting for basic communication with the people/organizations that should be supporting you is WRONG.
