"When life piles on the challenges, and you’re pushed to the edge, where and how do you find your fighting spirit? How do you go on?" A great read on "Finding 6 ways to find the fight in yourself" https://tinybuddha.com//dont-let-it-beat-you-how-to-find/

The pandemic causes many challenges for those leaving abusive relationships. There is support available, not only from shelters in your local area, but there is also funding available if you need to isolate and home is not a safe space for you right now. ~ Call 211 if you need to access isolation hotels.... Here is some great information from our government website that can help you, or someone you know, get the help needed. https://open.alberta.ca//css-covid-19-family-violence-fact

Another warm welcome to our new Executive Director, Andrea! https://www.lakelandtoday.ca//new-executive-director-leadi

W s’ s ? Because he has her so brainwashed that it’s all her fault and that she’s no good to anyone and no one will want her or love her and there’s no way she can possibly make it on her own. W s’ s ?... Because she thinks that if she just tries harder and if she’s a better wife and a better mom that maybe he will be happy with her and he wouldn’t get so angry with her. And maybe he will be the same sweet, charming man that he was when they first met. W s’ s ? Because he has her convinced that if she tries he will hurt or kill her or her family. Because he has threatened to tell the judge that she is a bad mom and will take away her kids and she will never see them again. Because he has taken away her money and convinced her that she has no good job qualities to make it on her own financially and she will always need him. More people are concerned with why women stay in abusive relationships than why men are abusing women. Unless you’ve been in an abusive relationship you have no idea how hard it is to escape. Abusers are able to fool those outside the home because they usually only abuse those inside the home. We need your support. We need your love. We do not need your judgement. @Note2SelfQuotes

Thank you to Sunnyside Manor for providing the Capelle Centre with this donation of knitted winter gear! We appreciate the time and effort that went into each item. Pictured is our staff member Kyra who is accepting the donation from Cecile Lavoie. Cecile has a special place in Capella's heart as she volunteered a lot of her time to the Centre as one of the very first staff members over 30 years ago. Cecile also held a seat on our board of directors for many, many years. Sending gratitude and heartfelt thanks this holiday season and always!

Today is Children's Grief Awareness Day. Grief comes in many forms, for many reasons, and can look very different in many ways; all of it deserving support. By teaching our little ones about grief and that it is ok to grieve in our own way, our own time, you are providing them with important tools to carry them throughout their lives. Please take advantage of these grief kits that are available at St.Paul FCSS for children ages 6-8 and also 9-12. Please call 780-645-5311 to learn more!

Have you ever felt as though you wanted to make a stand against family violence but are unsure how or even where to start? Or even to have that conversation about it with your children/friends/family/coworkers. Is that a comfortable topic to speak about? For many it isn't. Have you been witness to someone being treated wrongfully, and even their children bearing witness or being treated the same way, and not knowing where to go to get them support? ... Do you feel that it is even harder to support someone in this type of situation because we are in a global pandemic?! There's so much you can do, and are probably already doing, even without realizing it! Here are 10 ways you can take a stand and spread the word!

Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16. 67% of Canadians say they have personally known at least one woman who has experienced physical or sexual abuse. Approximately every six days, a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner.... These are alarming rates, and with the global pandemic it has only gotten worse. Please reach out if you or somebody you know is being affected by family violence. It has to start somewhere. https://canadianwomen.org/the-facts/gender-based-violence/.

What a beautiful gesture received from the Amisk Community School. Thank you for thinking of donating to the Capella Centre and for making these beautiful gifts for those in need! These blankets were initiated by the Grade 2 class as a challenge to complete a good deed to benefit another community.
