With the prolonged restrictions kept in place by Dr. Henry yesterday, some of us and our children might need some help with dealing with strong emotions. The link below can put you in touch with some organizations that can help. You are not alone. Do not suffer in silence. Asking for help proves strength, not weakness. https://www.heretohelp.bc.ca/node/1228

Burnaby DPAC Exec is in need of Elementary school representation. A lot of the current Exec have "aged up" into highschool. To get a more diverse and equal DPAC more Elementary Execs are needed. If you are interested in joining or would like some information, please email us [email protected] and we will put you in touch with someone who can answer questions. This is a great way to get behind the scenes of DPAC (District Parent Advisory Council) Any parent of an Elementary School age child can apply.

Letter form the District: August 13, 2020 Dear Families, Students, and Staff, As we continue to receive updates from the Ministries of Education and Health, I am reaching out to you as I... recognize that in times of uncertainty there is an appreciation for sharing information. You can see their full press release here. The following are some key dates that the Ministry of Education has shared: August 17 government will share its operational guidelines with school districts to support their restart plans August 21 school districts are required to submit their plans to the Ministry of Education for review and approval August 26 following plan approval by the Ministry of Education, school districts are asked to make their plans public September 8 school staff will meet with their joint health and safety committee to receive instructions about how the updated guidelines, co-developed with the BC Centre for Disease Control and Provincial Health Officer, will work in their school September 10 students will be welcomed back to their schools for orientation We are actively working on our plans for a return to school, with a priority on the health, safety and well-being of students, staff and the entire community. PLEASE TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO FILL THE SURVEY OUT Teaching and learning during a pandemic is new for all of us, and in the last three months we have been trying new things, learning and working to improve. As we look forward to September, we would like to know your thoughts on your learning experience to date, as this will help shape our planning for September. While none of us knows for sure what the situation with COVID-19 will be then, the Government of BC has indicated tha...t a hybrid model (a mix of in-person and remote learning) is likely for schools in the fall. Please keep in mind that there are certain things we cannot change, such as what is mandated by the Province of BC: the amount of time various grade levels spend in school, classroom density, and health and safety standards. What we can do is look at improving remote learning, in-person experiences, and connectedness to your school community. We invite you to take part in an online conversation, and we will be capturing feedback from Tuesday, June 16 until Wednesday, June 24. We will be using Thoughtexchange as a platform to gather people’s thoughts and ideas. Your participation in the survey is anonymous, but we will begin by asking some questions to help us better understand your experiences, such as whether you are a parent or a student, elementary or secondary, and whether or not you returned to school in June. The survey is open to all parents and guardians, as well as students in grades 6-12. It does not take long, and you can return to the conversation repeatedly to discover new thoughts and ideas that have been shared, if you like. As you provide your thoughts and feedback, please focus on the following topics to help us in our planning: What’s working well and what could enhance remote learning? If in-school learning was part of your experience, what would make it better? What are the key things you feel are important for students’ feelings of connectedness at school in a hybrid model? Share your thoughts now by clicking the link below: https://my.thoughtexchange.com/719048284
