4 Tips for a Perfect Valentine’s Day Date with Hearing Loss 1. Choose your restaurant carefully. We suggest choosing a restaurant that is well lit so you can see non-verbal cues and one that is relatively quiet. The more reverberation and noise, the harder it will be to hear your date. 2. Ask for seating along the perimeter of the restaurant, as it’s generally quieter compared to sitting in the middle of the room. ... 3. Choose a booth over a table. The high backs of booths will block some of the restaurant noise that can often drown out the conversation. 4. Avoid sitting close to the kitchen. Open kitchens that are visible to customers have been growing in popularity; however, the kitchen is often the nosiest place in the restaurant. Request a booth as far from the kitchen as possible, so you’re not forced to yell over the noise.

Understanding speech on the telephone can be challenging for those with hearing loss, but hearing aids can help! If you are a hearing aid user, remember to hold the telephone receiver near your hearing aid microphones. This will allow for the signal to be amplified for further clarity. - If you wear a Behind-The-Ear (BTE) hearing aid, you will want to hold the telephone receiver higher up, as demonstrated in the photo below. ... - If you wear an In-The-Ear (ITE) hearing aid, you will want to hold the telephone receiver up to your ear canal. For more tips on using the phone with hearing loss, ask your audiologist!

Hearing Loss: Use it or Lose it? Hearing loss is often gradual, which can make it easy to adapt to but also difficult to detect. Something we see fairly often in our clinic is Auditory Deprivation. This is a condition that occurs in those with hearing loss, where the brain loses the ability to interpret words and speech signals due to lack of stimulation over a period of time. When those with hearing loss choose not to treat the loss with hearing aids, we can see a decrease ...in speech recognition abilities. This is because the hearing nerve has not been receiving adequate stimulation, which causes it to become deprived, less functional and weakened over time. Don’t neglect your hearing. The sooner you treat your hearing loss, the better. Keep the hearing nerves stimulated and don’t deprive them. Call your Audiologist when you first suspect hearing loss. #CapitalCityAudiology #HearingLoss #Audiology #HearingProfessionals #AuditoryDeprivation #Awareness #HearingAids #Amplification

A Solution for Single-Sided Hearing Single-Sided Deafness (SSD), or unilateral sensorineural hearing loss refers to a significant or total hearing loss in one ear, while the other ear may be anywhere from normal hearing to a profound hearing loss. Those with SSD will have difficulty hearing speech in background noise and will struggle if the speaker is not sitting on their good side. If this sounds like you, or someone you know, the Phonak CROS might be a smart solution to ...consider. The Phonak CROS (Contralateral Routing of Signal) device consists of two parts: 1. The CROS device with a microphone to pick up sounds and voices from the non hearing ear and wirelessly transmit them to the hearing aid 2. The hearing aid to receive the signal from the non hearing ear and play it to your good ear. The CROS will transmit sound and voices to let your good ear for both of your ears . If you have good hearing in one ear and impaired hearing in the other, then the CROS will work for you. If you have questions regarding the Phonak CROS, contact your Audiologist today at 587-557-1000 for more information and to see if you’re a candidate. #CapitalCityAudiology #HearingAids #PhonakCROS #Phoank #HearingLoss #Audiology #HearingProfessionals #Awareness

How do I know when to change my hearing aid battery? Your hearing aid battery can last anywhere from three to ten days before it needs replacing, depending on which size of battery you have. The battery drain will also depend on usage and hearing aid style. You may hear two beeps when it is time to change your battery and it will give you a repeated warning at moderate intervals until the battery completely dies. ... You may also hear four beeps. This will be your last warning before your hearing aids turn off. When you go to replace your hearing aid battery, remove the sticker and let the battery sit for five minutes to fully activate before inserting it into the hearing aid. ** A used battery should be removed and disposed immediately. Your batteries and hearing aids should be kept out of reach of children and pets. ** #CapitalCityAudiology #Audiology #HearingAids #HearingProfessionals #HearingAidBatteries #ChangingBatteries
