In recognition of #WorldMentalHealthDay (https://bit.ly/3irxUK8) on October 10, we’re making time for mental health: to learn, to focus on our wellbeing and to reach out to each other important practices that we can all use during these unprecedented times. Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing the daily activities that we’re focusing on to help boost our moods, show our care and support mental wellness. To kick us off, we’re highlighting the importance of learning - takin...g stock of our own mental wellbeing and learning how to maintain, improve and support our own and other’s mental wellness, as well as understanding the tools and resources available to us, are invaluable steps on each of our own mental health journeys. Join us in assessing our mental wellness with CMHA National / ACSM National’s Mental Health Meter (https://bit.ly/2GFlZv2)! Together we can learn about mental health and work to improve our self-awareness, resiliency, balance, flexibility and our overall ability to enjoy life. Capital Power is pleased to support the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues - EFCL’s 100th anniversary and contribute to their plaza and nature walk project at W. Hawrelak Park! In honour of the community spirit that the EFCL has cultivated over the past century in #YEG, our contribution supports the planting of several trees and other vegetation native to the area such as a Saskatoon bush, which has cultural significance. In respectful recognition of the Treaty 6 territ...ory on which this park sits, a Saskatoon Bush was chosen for its historical importance to this area as the traditional lands of First Nations and Métis people. The Saskatoon bush is considered an important symbol of how our mother earth provides sustenance, medicine and cultural tools for her people and the interconnectivity of plant and human life. Before the snow falls, visit the EFCL 100th Anniversary Plaza in W. Hawrelak Park to enjoy the gifts of nature and reflect on the history and caring legacy of our community!

"Capital Power is dedicated to advancing low-carbon solutions, including carbon conversion, to power a sustainable future for all. The province's support for this kind of critical technology is key to ensuring our energy system can continue to provide reliable, affordable power while lowering emissions and companies like Capital Power can become carbon neutral by 2050. Brian Vaasjo, President and CEO Today's funding announcements https://bit.ly/2RNyJSD by the Government of... Alberta and Emissions Reduction Alberta demonstrate the province’s commitment to innovation and collaboration. Alberta’s support for #CarbonConversion technologies will not only help enhance the sustainability of our energy system but create positive impacts across industries to lower emissions. Capital Power is excited that Carbon Corp., also known as C2CNT, has received $3 million dollars in funding for their world-leading carbon conversion technology. We’ll be implementing C2CNT technology at our future Genesee Carbon Conversion Centre set to be the world’s largest commercial scale production facility of carbon nanotubes, a high-value product that can be added to materials such as concrete, steel, and aluminum to substantially increase strength and drastically decrease emissions. If you want the very best and brightest talent, you can’t recruit from 50% of the talent pool. Kate Chisholm, SVP, Planning, Stakeholder Relations and Chief Sustainability Officer Kate joined the Women in Clean Energy: Harnessing All Talent panel at #CEM11 to offer insight on gender equality, D&I, and the advancement of women in energy. She noted the importance of evaluating corporate recruitment practices to ensure top women candidates are recruited to leadership role...s in the #energy sector. Highlighting Capital Power’s Diversity & Inclusion practices, she explained that 1) when we recruit for leadership positions, we instruct our search firms to provide a shortlist of candidates that is no less than 50% women, 2) we maintain a recruitment list of high-quality female candidates in the industry to approach as positions open up, and 3) we’ve reviewed our job requirements for each position to remove barriers and gender bias that may prevent top female candidates from applying. Kate also explained how these practices have been successful for Capital Power. Today, we’re proud that both our Board and Executive team are made up of >40% women. Missed the event?
