What a wonderful 5 weeks we have had with online camp!!! New videos are being compiled of our work together learning Don Quixote - the music, and about the life In Spain in the early 17th century and the lessons we can learn for today....
On behalf on CSVC we want to remind that we started this venture as a vehicle to use music as a way to respond to social injustices in the world...we are sickened by the racism that exists both overtly and behind closed doors...may music help bring peace to those suffering and a way forward for a world where all breathing beings get respect....
"Don't play the notes. Play the meaning of the notes." - Pablo Casals #celloquote #PabloCasals #PauCasals #cello #cellist #violoncello #cellomuseum
Last night’s rehearsal started, as typical, with a warm up. However, unlike our usual yoga-based or body-mapping explorations to move our bodies better, we played a tune together and did a one minute individual assessment; then we did a gesture pantomime game with partners; then we played the same piece as previously and assessed the difference.... it was pretty incredible to see all the smiles and wonder about how the piece sounded more lively, more in tune, and more full in... sound! THEN, we did another movement drill and the playing became even better!!! I set this up as a pilot for a potential research project I have in mind that has absolutely nothing to do with playing - it was perfect because the participants expected one thing and it happened, but when I told them what I was really investigating, they also learned a lesson about research! More explanations coming....
