Poverty can negatively impact a good development when it comes to children and youth, we encourage everyone to try and help in their own way.
Single parent households tend to produce more children living in poverty. Why? lone parent families tend to fare worse economically than two parent families, making it more difficult to raise a child.
Poverty can strike just about anyone. Even those with jobs can lose them and find themselves as well as their children living in poverty, however research has shown that certain groups are more likely to live below the low-income cut off than others. 44% of lone parent families, for example, live in poverty, compared to 10% of couple families. Visible minorities, immigrants, children with disabilities and Aboriginal children are more likely to experience poverty than other groups as well.
Did you know that in Canada between the years 1996 and 2000, 488,000 children and youth spent five years or more living in poverty? It has obviously been an issue in this country for quite some time now.
Did you know that the cycle of poverty can be affected by factors including divorce, serious illness, disability, death, employment shortages, and government policies?
Did you know that 1.2 million Children in Canada are living in poverty? We all have to do our part!
