Presents Good Program Following the presentation by the mayor, three acts of vaudeville were given, all of which found favor with the huge audience, which numbered over 2,000 persons. Lt. Fernard Theiton, who was decorated with the Croix de Guerre by the French government while in the aviation services as a bomber, gave a remarkable exhibition of sharp shooting, while Harry Lee, a singing comedian, kept the house in an uproar by his clever work. Today we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Capitol Theatre and its rich history as a local heritage landmark and arts and entertainment hub in the heart of Downtown Windsor. The Capitol Theatre opened its doors December 30th, 1920, as part of Loew’s vaudeville and film theatre chain. Throughout the years and changes in ownership, technology, bankruptcy, and restorations, the Capitol has been a place for Windsor to come together, present art and entertainment, and gener...ate lasting memories. Today, the Capitol is owned by the City of Windsor - Municipal Government, managed by its anchor tenant, the @Windsor Symphony Orchestra, and is the proud home of organizations including Windsor International Film Festival, Windsor Dance eXperience, Artcite Windsor, and Arts Collective Theatre. The Capitol Theatre provides local artists and community groups a multi-purpose venue for dance, literature, music, drama, film, and more. On this special day, we look back on 100 years of community building and eagerly await a future where we can share this space safely with one another, celebrating the vibrancy and importance of our region’s artistic and creative ambassadors.
Today the Capitol Theatre turns 100 years old! Wish the Theatre a Happy Birthday in the comments below!
