Prescription adaptation in BC is when pharmacists accept the responsibility of making a minor change to your current prescription, in order to enhance your drug treatment. There are 3 types of adaptation: 1- We might need to change or clarify the dose, formulation or the regimen of your medication. 2- We might have to change your medication altogether. 3- We might give you new fills of your medication, based on your previous prescriptions.... Go to Caplet website (link below) and check out our recent blog post written by @Pegah03 to learn more about the first type of adaptation: https://buff.ly/2TSDGZ5 . . . #capletpharmacy #vancouverpharmacy #adaptation #vancity #healthy #dailyhivevancouver #vancouvermom #medicationmanagement #vancouver #vancouverdoctors See more

For general gut health, any probiotic - whether in the form of a yogurt or supplement - will be suitable. However, for specific health issues, such as the prevention of diarrhea while on antibiotics, it is important to choose the correct strain of probiotic and a dose that has been studied and proven effective. Once you've chosen your probiotic, you should start taking it on the first day of your course of antibiotics, at least three hours before or after your dose of antibio...tics. Continue this throughout your course of antibiotics and for a week afterwards. Note that some probiotics need to be kept in the refrigerator, while others must be stored at room temperature. Contact us here (https://buff.ly/2RJHzyp)for guidance on probiotic choice. We recommend only the probiotics that have been studied extensively for prevention of diarrhea, some of which may also protect against the Clostridium difficile infection. . . . . . #probiotics #antibiotics #guthealth # microbiota #stress #alcohol #smoking #pharmacy #capletpharmacy #vancouverpharmacy #vancouver #vancity #healthy #bacteria

When you are on antibiotics, probiotics can save the day Probiotics are live microorganisms - bacteria and yeasts - that have been safely consumed in dairy products for more than 100 years. More recently, probiotics are also sold as supplements. When the correct strains are taken at the correct strength, probiotics offer many health benefits to patients. In the case of dysbiosis caused by antibiotics, probiotics act to restore the healthy bacteria in your gut. As well, pro...biotics will line your gut wall to fight and prevent the growth of pathogens, metabolize nutrients, and aid digestion. This allows normal functioning of your gut and prevents diarrhea. During the course of antibiotics not only is it rational to take probiotics, but also a golden opportunity to restructure your gut with good bacteria for reestablishment of overall health. . Antibiotics are prescribed against harmful bacteria (pathogens) capable of causing an infection that your immune system cannot fight. When used correctly, antibiotics eradicate infections and save lives. . However, antibiotics also destroy good bacteria, causing an imbalance of gut microbiota. As a result of this imbalance (known as dysbiosis), pathogens can easily invade, grow and eventually dominate in your gut due to the non-competitive environment. This invasion leaves ...you with a greater risk of diarrhea, abdominal pain, gas, bloating and exposure to infection. In the worst cases, dysbiosis can lead to a serious gut infection caused by the bacteria Clostridium difficile, which is extremely difficult to treat. These symptoms can occur anytime from just a few hours after your first dose of antibiotics to two months after finishing your course. Note that antibiotics that aim to treat a broader range of bacteria, at higher dosages and/or longer duration increase the risk of dysbiosis. . Ok, we know what microbiota is. But why does the stability of your gut microbiota even matter? Well, maintenance of a balanced microbiota is key to normal gut function and the overall health of your body. While your digestive system breaks down most of your food, your gut microbiota helps you digest any carbohydrates left behind (such as starch, fiber, and lactose) that can otherwise cause gas and bloating. Your gut microbiota can also produce certain vitamins, and aid the... absorption of minerals like magnesium, calcium and iron. But your gut microbiota isn’t just there to help you digest your food it also protects you from illness in three main ways: Firstly, by lining your gut and releasing substances to thicken the gut wall, thereby preventing bad bacteria from attaching to your gut wall. Secondly, your gut microbiota keeps the environment acidic, which prevents the growth of any bad bacteria already present. And thirdly, your gut microbiota kills invading bad bacteria by releasing antimicrobials. . At Caplet, we are writing a blog post on how to use probiotics while on antibiotics, and this is a sneak peek to the what is being written by very skilled pharmacist @pegah03: . Our body is home to trillions of #microbes, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, with the majority living in our gut. Everybody has a unique combination of microbes in the gut, referred to as gut microbiota. The composition of an individual’s gut microbiota is determined by both genetics and lifes...tyle choices. The microbiota starts to develop at birth and stays relatively stable until we reach adulthood. However, the stability of the microbiota can be negatively impacted by many factors as you go through your life. These factors include: Stress, consumption of processed foods, a lack of dietary fiber, drinking alcohol, smoking as well as certain medical procedures and medications (like antibiotics) . . . . #probiotics #antibiotics #guthealth # microbiota #stress #alcohol #smoking #pharmacy #capletpharmacy #vancouverpharmacy #vancouver #vancity See more
