Thank you to Conrad Belau and Alix Cowman for being a public voice to an extremely important conversation about inclusivity and equality. As members of theatre and Calgary Acts, we believe it is extremely important for all people to be accepted, welcomed, and celebrated for who they are. Currently in the CAT Awards structure, acting awards are divided into female and male performers, leading to the exclusion of anyone who is non-binary and/or gender fluid. From those we have ...spoken to surrounding this topic, the same conclusion is drawn; a performer is a performer regardless of gender. In submitting a proposal to re-imagine the acting awards to focus on performance in July, we were informed the awards are locked in as they are this year and were invited to speak at the AGM in September to address changes to future CAT Awards. It will be our great pleasure to bring forward this discussion to the Calgary Acts membership and push as an ally for change to occur. We hope that others will stand with us and support a motion to include all performers in the award system and look forward to a future of celebration for all. See more

Shows come and go, but what is always present are the always amazing people who are involved in theatre. Whether we are a part of a show or not we are all part of a larger community filled with passion, dedication, sweat, bruises, tears, and so much love. After finalizing a few details we have made the decision to not cancel Rock of Ages altogether, but postpone the show for late 2020 or early 2021. Obviously things are changing daily with covid-19 so the dates cannot be con...firmed. We want to keep the cast and crew that we have because let’s face it they are amazing! So once we are all out and able to hug one another again we will finalize more information. Theatre is amazing and so are all of the people involved whether it’s your first venture into community theatre or you’re a seasoned professional.
