Lovely suite #4 for rent and rented the same day! $850pm 2021
Bridgetown: Spacious one br apartment handy to all town amenities. No smoker, no pets. references required.
RENTED AUG.1, 2020!
Although we are an apartment building, we are, as well, a well known and rather unusual Federal heritage building circa 1809 Captain John Crosskill House, founder of the town of Bridgetown. Our front windows are original 6 over 6 with the bottom sashes having been changed to one very large pane. ( note: these sashes will eventually be restored by the fabulous "Window Woman" in Ma. USA as seen on This Old House. NS Environment says SAVE YOUR WINDOWS! We hope you will do just that too!
Suite #6 Lovely sun filled one bedroom apartment suite available July 1st 2020. RENTED!
Captain Crosskill House circa 1807 (the date that the lumber was ordered and milled for this building by a "Gidney") has seen several transformations. Originally there was no back ell, then later on a one story back ell was built. During this time frame pre 1812 possibly, there was a large kitchen fireplace and a semi basement with a small cool room to store winter veggies etc.. This room still exists on the east side of the present basement. The ceiling height in this room is lower and the floor is raised (before they dug it out further in 1898 for the more recent two story ell. ) The floor is all sand laid brick and the walls are ancient plaster; quite an interesting little room ( now with 2 water heaters and some plumbing running through it)
McIntire Bow Windows on Federal Buildings in Boston. At the present time we do not know who the architect for the Captain John Crosskill House was (circa 1811) ...However the distinctive two story bow windows on the front façade of the Crosskill House in Bridgetown indicate an architect who favored well known Samuel McIntire's style. The parlor mantel in the Ruggles House, Columbia Falls, Maine; same vintage as Captain Crosskill House and owner was a relation of the Bridgetown Ruggles family who owned the Capt. Crosskill House for almost a century.
