CapU Arbutus Studio 31.10.2020

UPDATE: We will not be removing this post, as we only wanted to share information with our followers about our program. However, we wanted to acknowledge that we failed to consider the importance of representation when choosing this photo. Our department aims to be inclusive and to celebrate diversity, but we acknowledge that this photo does not show this. We acknowledge that we need to do better to ensure that equality and inclusivity are represented at the forefront of o...ur work and art. "Capilano University stands, peacefully, for an equitable societywe strive to be a place where ideas and experiences can be shared safely and where support is available to address the most painful of social issues. Racism has no place here. (Paul Dangerfield, CapU President.) The Theatre Department commits to these actions: our faculty will continue to learn, educate ourselves, and listen, and that we will foster a school in which all our students feel welcome and inspired. We recognize that there is more to learn, work to be done, and changes to be made. We welcome and appreciate input. PREVIOUS POST: Interested in a career in the theatre and performing arts? CapU Theatre is still accepting applications for Fall 2020 in all our programs: Technical Theatre, Acting for Stage & Screen, and Musical Theatre. We have a vibrant community of students and teachers here and we'd love for you to join us. Big congratulations to Technical Theatre Student Stephanie Barclay for winning the inaugural Mike Jarvis Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship offers an important support to CapU Theatre students, but also to the theatre community in North Van. <3 <3 <3

Every year in April, CapU Theatre presents the Tom Cone Festival in the Arbutus Studio, a presentation of short plays written, directed, and starring CapU students. We were already working on the fest when we had to adapt to the circumstances of Covid, but our students soldiered on, putting together presentations of these original plays in innovative ways. Over the next little while, we'll be sharing some of these projects to have a "stay at home" festival. Today's play (And... it's the right link this time! ): PLATES by Gwen Davies Starring Keira Martin & Samuel Rook Directed & Edited by Juliet Long https://www.youtube.com/watch

Our Technical Theatre students and the work they do is an integral part of CapU Theatre. They work in the Arbutus Studio, in the BlueShore, they build props, sets, hang lights, call shows, organize actors. Basically, we couldn't do the work we do without them. Congratulations 2020 graduates of the Technical Theatre Program!

A group of rude mechanicals is found nowhere other than here. Just kidding, they're adorably sweet. Katie Chaisson, Cecil MacRae, Rasul Vays, Delaney Gilmour, Loughran MacLeod, and Oscar Cope are Penny Quince, Bottom the Weaver, Francis Flute the Bellows-Mender, Snout the Tinker, Snug the Joiner, and Starveling the Tailor. All they want is to impress the Duke (and maybe get a six-pence out of it), but will they? Better find out in A Midsummer Night's Dream, opening tomorrow afternoon at CapU Arbutus Studio. E-mail your ticket reservations for any of our four shows now, information on the event page!
