Good Evening , Tomorrow is a very special day for all of us at Cardigan Feed Services Ltd as we remember the sacrifices of all the Canadian soldiers that came to the Netherlands to free us from German occupation during the Second World War. Dad is gone but Mom , in her 94 th year still vividly remembers so much of her life as a teenager during those horrific years. Her book When the Green Letter Comes Over describes the fear and anguish of those years. Those years were embla...zoned in her mind and I often wonder if she didn't have what they call today,PTSD. We just want to say THANK YOU to all veterans ,all Canadians and all who helped with the War effort so that we might live in peace in this incredible country that we call Canada. Without all of you, we would not be here. We are truly the immigrant story and as we welcome many more immigrants to Canada from all over the world, I hope that their happiness will be as great as ours is , the happiness of living in peace in Canada. Discovering what suits your horse's nutritional needs can be a challenge, especially during the fall and winter months when grass isn't as plentiful. To maintain a healthy weight during the fall and into the winter, it is a good idea to plan ahead. When you develop a fall feeding program with good quality hay, great quality feed, enough water and salt, you avoid unwanted changes in body condition. By looking at the quality of hay you feed, you can adjust your feeding program to suite your horses needs. See the link below to discover the 6 Signs of Good Quality Hay, and work with your feed store and local vet to create a proper diet for your horse. https://www.purinamills.com//six-signs-of-good-quality-hor https://equipurina.ca/en/products/

Farm & Food Care PEI Fun Fact Friday: PEI, as a whole, is currently only using 1.5% of the groundwater that is replenished each year, so it is a resource we ar...e not even close to depleting. Periods of extended dry weather in July and August are the new normal. UPEI climate expert Dr. Adam Fenech has clearly stated we can expect this trend for the foreseeable future. At the same time, our annual precipitation is not expected to drop, rather stay the same or be higher outside the summer months. Therefore, our groundwater supply will continue to be strong. Currently PEI farmers are the only industry not permitted to access water for their businesses. All other groups businesses, municipalities, etc. are able to access water within the regulated parameters. See more

As we celebrate Labour Day, I want to say Thank You to all of you who are thinking about Food and Water Security. 80% of the food Canadians eat is sold through Walmart, Loblaws, Costo, Sobeys and one other one. This is too much responsiblility in the hands of far too few for us to be safe with our food supply. So in celebration of You for having done your share for food and water security these past few months, we are giving a 5.00 discount towards your next purchase for ever...y picture we get of a garden, chickens, goats, pigs calves ,water tank or any other food or water source that you created this year to insure your families food and water security. (Maximum 1 photo/customer) Thank You to all the farmers on this Labour Day weekend for doing a great job of looking after yourselves and your families! Mary vandenBroek Grant
