Having trouble adding flare to your resume? It can be difficult making your own portfolio stand out and can mean the difference between someone looking at it for only a few seconds to a couple of minutes. One tool I highly recommend is Canva.com. Canva is a multi media creation platform where you can design all kinds of projects and products using their many resources. One of the best parts of this is that you can really make do with the free options. (Although you should th...ink about the membership if you undergo projects on a regular bases. You get more options and tools to step up your game.) Check out Canva.com and review the Resume section for many different select and fill options. Other useful tools to add a competitive advantage includes business cards, video presentations, and PowerPoints for your corporate life. Canva doesn't sponsor us, but we had to share this amazing tool with everyone. Have any tools people could benefit from? Let us know below! #jobsearch #jobhunting #resumetips #resume

Motivation is an often overlooked part of the job search process. Many believe that they can push through the feelings of doubt and just keep working harder, but this is a temporary strategy at best. Just like the energy to exercise, we only have so much energy we can focus on willpower and staying positive. The important thing to do and remember is that you should set yourself up for success with the fewest number of barriers. Try following some of the below tips to stay mo...tivated and confident during your job search: - Have an agenda with breaks: stay focused for about 25 to 30 minutes at a time then take 5 to 10-minute breaks. If you burn yourself out by overdoing your applications, you will find your searches to be more negative the harder you work yourself. - Keep living your life: Don’t allocate more time to your search then you would to work. Stay active, stay social, and keep your hobbies. - Have a gratitude journal: each night list three things that you are grateful for. This doesn’t seem like much, but your mind will focus on the last thing you focus on in the day. End the day with something positive and enriching. - Dress for success: this was mentioned in an earlier post, but you will be in a more professional mindset when dressed as a more professional person. Don’t get down if your search takes a little time. Remember this is a numbers game that you will get out what you put in. Good luck and happy hunting! #jobsearch #motivation #determination #jobhunting

Something often overlooked when starting a new job is the importance of business acumen: the need to understand how the organization works as a whole and how anything eventually gets done. More so with large corporations or government positions, it is easy to lose a sense of the impact that your role plays in the larger picture. Some of the benefits of having a clear understanding of your impact include: - A stronger sense of importance and integrity; - Understanding how to ...excel in your position; - And being able to identify the different stakeholders that make your job possible. If you are curious about expanding your understanding in your own job, here are some sources to get you started: - Connect with others in different departments then your own to learn about what they do; - Look for guides or materials on the flow of the business to understand who your clients/customers are, how you provide value to them, and the process that leads to that value; - Seek a mentor or discuss with a manager/supervisor who may be able to go through it with you; - And ask different questions when you start with a company to learn about the flow of employees in the organization. Business acumen can be overlooked and many people are hesitant to admit they may not know how things work. The momentary discomfort of asking these questions is nothing compared to the value of knowing it! #jobtips #growth #promotion #professionalism

An often overlooked advantage that job seekers frequently forgo is their own competitive advantage. Each individual is a specific and unique set of skills that provide their own special benefits, traits, and positive additions to a workplace or industry. When you read a job posting or position description, what you are reading is a question from the employer: "Can you do what we need you to do while fitting into the culture we have here?" The truth is that many people read th...ese at face value and miss the bigger picture. So many resumes end up getting written to show basic skill or even why you can do the required tasks better, but they forget to include their own uniqueness. Remember, your resume is a snap shot, an advertisement to get you an interview. Answer the questions that the employer has for you, but make sure to highlight your own creativity or highlights through examples of your experience. Tell them what you will be good at and show them how you will fit. If you make it difficult to place you, they will move on to the next candidate. How do you stand out? Tell us in the comments. #resumetips #jobsearch #interview

Want to make a big impact at your next interview and stack the odds in your favor? Here is an often overlooked and useful tool: a notebook and a pencil! Yes, we are aware that this seems incredibly simplistic. This is still something that many don't account for. Some of the benefits of having these in your interview arsenal include: - Taking notes during the interview to record important information;... - Keeping questions you planned to ask or research you prepared ahead of time for the interview; - Recording the names of important people you should know or have met; - And showing your engagement to the meeting by coming prepared. You can never underestimate the power of a pencil and paper in a professional settings; especially those where your phone is seen as a distraction or unprofessional to be checking. Be prepared for your next interview and bring something to take notes in. It might just be the boost you need to get the job! #jobsearch #interviewtips #jobseeking
