A new poll, in partnership with Angus Reid Institute, reveals that, four in 10 Canadians who regularly attend religious services agree that #COVID restrictions on places of worship, compared to other public venues, have been unfair. The bottom line message of this poll is that people are missing worship more than they thought they would. It highlights the importance of community, of communal in-person worship as part of what holds religious communities together. It’s a core part of our identity, Cardus Executive Vice President Ray Pennings told Convivium Magazine.

Cardus education program director David Hunt, responds to the latest call to defund Ontario’s Catholic schools. Education is elemental to all social and cultural life. It does not merely form individuals but our very society and shared life, he argues. Bringing a consolidation of the public and Catholic school boards risks rewriting Canadian history and is counter to international schooling norms.

The federal government is risking making a bad situation worse. By taking single-game sports betting out of the Criminal Code, without also encouraging provincial governments to reform gambling, it's the poor who will suffer. Provincial gambling monopolies already operate as a tax on the marginalized, preying on the poorand those playing hard to join them. Adding a new "product" for gambling monopolies to offer will heighten this injustice.

Child care is the care of a child, no matter who does it. Child care is not only a women’s issue but also a family issue and ought to be treated as such. We ha...ve across Canada a tremendous and beautiful diversity of care options available, care that is both done and chosen by families according to their own cultures, customs, traditions and work needs." There is no national consensus on national daycarenot from moms and dads and not from academics and non-parental child care providers. Most Canadians want flexibility in how we care for our very youngest so families can do what works. Interested in just how diverse Canadians' child care preferences are, and what the federal government can do to support families? Check out the opening remarks of Andrea Mrozek, Cardus Senior Fellow, which she presented last week to the House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women: https://www.cardus.ca//cardus-submission-to-the-house-of-/
